The report explores perspectives on workforce preparedness, the educational outcomes and experiences that affect hiring decisions, and the preparation of recent graduates for short- and long-term career success. HIGH-IMPACT PRACTICES The teaching and learning practices below have been widely tested and have been shown to be beneficial for college students from many backgrounds, especially historically underserved students, who often do not have equitable access to high-impact learning. These practices take many different forms, depending on learner characteristics and on institutional priorities and contexts. VALUE RUBRIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECT The original VALUE initiative in involved teams of faculty and other educational professionals to develop 16 VALUE rubrics for the LEAP Essential Learning Outcomes. Each rubric was developed from the most frequently identified characteristics or criteria of learning for each of the 16 learning outcomes. Drafts of each rubric were then tested by faculty with their own students’ 2021 INSTITUTE ON GENERAL EDUCATION AND ASSESSMENT The Institute on General Education and Assessment is designed for any campus, system, or consortium engaged in redesigning general education for students. Attendees can be at any stage in the process of rethinking general education approaches and issues emerging from their respective needs and circumstances. AAC&U Conference on Diversity, Equity, and Student Success UPDATE: AAC&U is closely monitoring developments related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, including the public health guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The AAC&U Conference on Diversity, Equity, and Student Success will proceed as planned on March 19–21. Further updates will be provided if warranted by ongoing developments. AAC&U Launches the L. Lee Knefelkamp Fund for Linking Student andCampus Success
To honor the legacy of scholar and educator L. Lee Knefelkamp, AAC&U has announced the launch of a new endowed fund to promote intentional and sustained linkages between student and campus success. Lynn Pasquerella to Deliver Lectures on Liberal Arts and Public Life AAC&U President Lynn Pasquerella will deliver the third annual Malcolm Lester Phi Beta Kappa Lectures on Liberal Arts and Public Life at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Her three lectures, to be held March 26–27, will explore liberal education's role in preserving democracy and catalyzing individual and societal transformation. AAC&U Joins Higher Ed Associations in Letter on Campus Free Speech AAC&U joined the American Council on Education and other higher education organizations in sending a letter to US Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos raising concerns about a proposed rule on campus free speech. While the department’s goal of protecting robust debate and a diversity of ideas on campus is admirable, the rule is likely to curtail or limit free speech, particularly at private institutions. Applications Open for 2020 Delphi Award The Delphi Award presents a $15,000 award to institutions that have demonstrated effective strategies to support non-tenure-track, contingent, or adjunct faculty in pursuing strategic priorities such as student learning and community engagement.
