ABOUT ANIMALS
Welcome to about animals, the online animal encyclopedia with interesting articles about the most amazing organisms on earth. RINKHALS (HEMACHATUS HAEMACHATUS) The Rinkhals is a medium-sized snake that measures 1.2 – 1.5 m (3.9 – 4.9 ft) in length. It differs from true cobras because of the keeled dorsal scale aligned body. There are several other anatomical differences in Rinkhals that make this snake quite a unique species as compared to true cobras. AXOLOTL (AMBYSTOMA MEXICANUM) Axolotl is a paedomorphic aquatic salamander which means it retains its larval characteristics once it reaches adulthood or its reproductive stage. Adult axolotls vary in length with an average size between 15 and 45 cm (0.5-1.5 ft). The Mexican aquatic salamander carries an approximate weight of 0.06 – 0.1 kg. TARANTULA HAWK (POMPILIDAE) The tarantula hawk is a diurnal creature that spends the day in search of nectar and fermented fruits. However, due to the nocturnal lifestyle of the tarantulas, hunting usually occurs at dusk. The wasps are usually calm and do not attack humans unless their life is indanger.
BLUE WILDEBEEST (CONNOCHAETES TAURINUS) Adult males of this species generally appear darker than females. Among the two existing species of wildebeests, the Blue Wildebeest is the largest, both in size and weight. The average shoulder height ranges from 115 to 145 cm (45 – 57 inches) while the typicalhead-body length is
SUMATRAN ELEPHANT (ELEPHAS MAXIMUS SUMATRANUS) The Sumatran Elephant is a subspecies of the Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus) and shares its genus with the Sri Lankan (E. m. maximus) and Indian Elephant (E. m. indicus). Out of the three recognized subspecies of Asian Elephant, the Sumatran Elephant is the smallest in size. The males of this species also bear the smallest tusks. MASSASAUGA RATTLESNAKE (SISTRURUS CATENATUS) They are medium sized, hetero-thermic snakes, with a body that is covered in black blotches. All species of the massasauga rattlesnake have 25 rows of scales at the mid body and 9 enlarged scales present on the triangular head. Measuring about 45 – 80 cm in length (1.5 – 2.6 ft), the species occupies an approximate weight of 300 - 400grams
JACKSON'S CHAMELEON (TRIOCEROS JACKSONII) The Jackson’s chameleon is a cold-blooded creature, and thus depends on its surroundings to maintain its body temperature at appropriate levels. A Jackson's chameleon starts its day by basking in the morning sun. Once the body is heated up, the chameleon becomes more active and starts searching for prey animals. FRILLED LIZARD (CHLAMYDOSAURUS KINGII) The frilled lizard, also known as the frilled neck lizard, frilled dragon or dragon lizard, is a unique reptile, popular for its frill around the neck. Though they are found only in the dry woodlands of Australia and New Guinea, they are quite popular around the world for their unique defence strategy. EYELASH VIPER (BOTHRIECHIS SCHLEGELII) Description. Also known as the ‘horned palm viper’ or ‘bocaraca’, the eyelash viper gets its name due to a unique set of scales over its eyes that resemble 'eyelashes'. Very less is known about the purpose of this feature. Some biologists believe that the eyelashes help the snake inABOUT ANIMALS

Welcome to about animals, the online animal encyclopedia with interesting articles about the most amazing organisms on earth.LION (PANTHERA LEO)
The name “Lion”, originates from Latin “Leo” and Ancient Greek “Leon”. The scientific name of this species is Panthera leo. The lion and its close relatives tigers, leopards, cheetahs, jaguars and other big cats constitute the genus Panthera. The males and females of Panthera leo are easily distinguishable. OKAPI (OKAPIA JOHNSTONI) Okapi. The Okapi resides in the dense tropical rainforest located northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is an elusive and shy animal that was not discovered by the outer world until 1887. The first description of this herbivorous animal was made in 1901 by a British Zoologist named Ray Lankester. The name Okapi and the genericname
SIAMANG (SYMPHALANGUS SYNDACTYLUS) Siamang, also known as the greater gibbon, is an acrobatic primate, and is the darkest and largest of the gibbons. They have unusually large hands that are larger than their feet, and take ‘just another lazy day’ to the next level. Siamangs possess a gular (throat) sac with the size of a grapefruit, making them the noisiest of allgibbons.
PIG-NOSED TURTLE (CARETTOCHELYS INSCULPTA) Pig-nosed turtles are entirely aquatic creatures. The female turtles leave the water only to nest, and quickly return to the water once the eggs are laid. The turtles inhabit freshwaters such as rivers, lakes, swamps, streams, lagoons, and water holes. They GOLDEN SNUB-NOSED MONKEY (RHINOPITHECUS ROXELLANA) Golden snub-nosed monkey. The golden snub-nosed monkey, also known as the Sichuan snub-nosed monkey is a very rare species found only in Central and Southwest China. It can be identified easily by its long golden-brown guard hairs on its back. It has a unique nose that has no protruding nasal bones, giving the species its name. EURASIAN LYNX (LYNX LYNX) The Eurasian Lynx looks cute, cuddly and just a little larger than the domestic cat, but it is as fierce as a predator can be. In fact, the cute Eurasian Lynx exhibits a 4x package; it is capable of taking down an animal 4 times its own size; it can jump more than 4 times its height, and when threatened, its aggression can simply be 4 times higher than anybody’s expectation. BLACK WILDEBEEST (CONNOCHAETES GNOU) The underbelly between the forelegs also has long and dark hair. Besides the characteristic mane and hair, this animal has a thick neck, plain back and small, beady eyes. Both males and females of black Wildebeest have strong horns that curve forward in a downward motion before going up like hooks. MUNTJAC DEER (MUNTIACUS) Muntjac deer, also called the mastreani deer, is a group of small deer found mainly in Southern Asia. The name Muntjac originates from the Sudanese “mencek”, which means small deer. Muntjac deer is also widely known as the barking deer, due its unique cry that resembles the bark of a dog. This group of deer consists of 12 known species and CUBAN CROCODILE (CROCODYLUS RHOMBIFER) The Cuban crocodile is a rare species that prefers a freshwater habitat. It is mainly found in freshwater regions such as swamps or marshes and rivers. The Cuban crocodile is an incredibly terrestrial creature that rarely swims inside the water. Hence, the crocodile can often be found crawling near a river bank rather than inside it.ABOUT ANIMALS
