The North Lakes Route is generally rolling and one of Adventure Cycling's easier routes to ride. There are no dramatic climbs over mountain passes. Adventure Cycling Association has been monitoring the COVID-19 situation to help ensure the health and safety of our members, tour participants and leaders, staff, and community. We believe the bicycle travel community is well prepared for a moment such as this, as the skills and outlook for a tour translate well in uncertain times. TOURING GEAR ESSENTIALS Cycling helmet. Touring shoes — good for walking as well as riding, i.e. some flex in the sole. Cycling gloves. Cycling shorts. Socks — wool or synthetic. Leg warmers or tights for riding (rain pants could substitute) Short-sleeved shirts. Light, long-sleeved shirt for layering and sun protection. Rain gear, jacket and pants.BICYCLE ROUTE 66
Right from the start in Chicago, Illinois, Bicycle Route 66 diverges from Historic Route 66 due to heavy traffic conditions. The official start location on Lake Michigan in Grant Park at Buckingham Fountain allows the use of multiple bike paths and trails along with city streets out of the congestion to meet up with Historic Route 66 inElwood.

It is available as a pdf or physical copy. The physical copy is printed on standard 8 1/2" x 11" weatherproof paper CHOOSING A BIKE FOR THE GREAT DIVIDE If you don't use a suspension fork, consider using a wide front tire (2.3-3.0) and run low air pressure. Tubeless tires are designed to run with lower pressure. Without a tube, there's no risk of a pinch-flatting. This will make your front end quite soft and take theedge off.
