The lowland forests, all but depleted, have given way to the French population who inhabit this island. All of Réunion’s endemic bird species can be seen fairly easily, which will allow visitors to the MADAGASCAR: HOTSPOTS NIGERIA: IMPORTANT BIRD AREAS Birds, birding and bird watching important bird areas in Nigeria Nigeria has only 4 endemic species, 2 of which occur only on the Jos Plateau, Rock Firefinch Lagonosticta sanguinodorsalis and Plateau Indigobird Vidua maryae. Birds, birding and bird watching in Benin In comparison with some of its neighbours, Benin (formerly Dahomey) has been poorly studied from an ornithological point of view. Dowsett (1993) established the first annotated bird list for the country, totalling 423 species. From 1993 to 2010, 58 additions to the country avifauna were published by several authors and these are listed CAPE VERDE ISLANDS: HOTSPOTS Birds, birding and bird watching hotspots in Cape Verde Islands São Nicolau At Campo da Preguiça and surroundings near the airport, there is a small population of Spanish Sparrow Passer hispaniolensis breeding in the terminal building, one of the very few present colonies on the island. Birds, birding and bird watching species in Africa Almost 2,700 bird species of 111 bird families have been seen in Africa and its associated islands. The countries which have the largest number of species on their national lists with the approximate numbers are the following. Country Species Democratic Republic of the Congo 1139 Tanzania 1137 Kenya 1080 Angola 915 Nigeria 910 CAPE VERDE ISLANDS: INTRODUCTION Birds, birding and bird watching in Cape Verde Islands With a number of endemic land birds and large seabird colonies with species which are difficult to see elsewhere in the area, the Cape Verde Islands offer much of interest. With few organised trips at present, the islands offer perhaps an opportunity for the individual traveller. Raso Lark Alauda razae, which is entirely BIRDFAIR 2021 CANCELLED Birdfair regret to announce that due to the continuation of COVID restrictions deeply impacting UK and international travel, public health and the safety of their visitors and exhibitors, they have decided not to host the British Birdwatching Fair at Rutland Water Nature Reserve this year. Birdfair are now putting their energies into exploring the possibilities for 2022.AFRICAN BIRD CLUB

Introduction The ABC's Conservation Programme supports small to medium sized conservation projects in Africa. Since 1996, it has supported a wide variety of projects including training courses, research into threatened species and promotion and awareness of conservation issues in Africa. The full list of past projects and some of the final reports can be seen here. MADAGASCAR: INTRODUCTION Madagascar's uniqueness is legendary and this is well reflected in its birds. Of the 280 species known from the island, an incredible 100 plus are entirely endemic to Madagascar and a further 20 or so are shared only with neighbouring South West Indian Ocean islands.
