Are you working in sweats from the couch? Are you intermittently working when not chasing your kids around? Are you set up in a quiet spot with a nice view? The basement with no natural light? Or perched at the kitchen table, within reach of the kettle? We should be so lucky as to have a cozy home office like this one in Mary Hiester Reid's "A Fireside." #DYK: Hiester Reid was one of the first women accepted into the Ontario Society of Artists and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. And when she died in Toronto in 1921, the Art Gallery of Toronto (now AGO) responded by mounting the largest single-artist retrospective in its history. #AGOfromHome • Mary Hiester Reid. _1k_ _54_ Did you love Peter Rabbit as a kid? If you did, you're probably very familiar with the sweet characters created by Beatrix Potter. We have a wonderful little watercolour of a bat done by Potter, who grew up with a menagerie of pets, including two long-eared bats left in her care when her brother went off to boarding school. She would sketch the family pets regularly, which is no wonder to anyone who has found themselves reading her stories and reveling at the cute characters. #DYK that she often named the animals in her stories after pets from her childhood - including Peter Rabbit. If you could name this fellow, what would you call him? Beatrix Potter, born London, England, 1866, died near Sawrey, England, 1943.
