The American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) has released the Nurse Resilience Series in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, currently featuring five free downloadable resources with plans to add more. The Resiliency series includes Breathwork for Resilience, Beach and Forest Guided Imagery for Resilience, Centering for Resilience and Tapping for Resilience. Encourage fellow nurses by passing on the gift of resiliency: email it, pass on the link, or print the pages and post in the break room. Rebecca “Becky” Lara of Phoenix, Arizona is the recipient of 2020 American Holistic Nurses Association’s (AHNA) Presidential Award. This award recognizes individuals who have provided outstanding service, and through their contributions, have supported the growth and success of AHNA. Becky is the current Editor for AHNA’s Beginnings magazine and has been with AHNA since 2004, helping to increase visibility of holistic nursing, nurture nurses around the world, and highlight the stories of holistic nurses. _AMERICAN HOLISTIC NURSES ASSOCIATION AWARDS THE 2020 RESEARCH GRANT TO SIRI GURUNAM KAUR KHALSA_
Siri GuruNam Kaur Khalsa, MSN, RN, CNE of Espanola, New Mexico, is the recipient of the 2020 American Holistic Nurses Association Research Grant. She will use this research grant to fund her PhD research project titled, The Lived Experiences of Parenting Adults with Developmental/Intellectual Disabilities (DD/ID), a project to begin this coming summer. Ms. Khalsa, using a Hermeneutic Phenomenological Framework for this qualitative study, will interview New Mexico parents, who are still caring for their adult child with DD/ID. _AMERICAN HOLISTIC NURSES ASSOCIATION RECOGNIZES JAIME VINSON AS THE HOLISTIC NURSING RISING STAR_ Jaime Vinson, BSN, RN, HN-BC, RYT, of Fort Wayne, Indiana was awarded the 2020 Holistic Nursing Rising Star Award as part of the AHNA 40th Annual Awards. This award recognizes a new nurse who dedicates themselves to a holistic path, applies creative holistic practices, and epitomizes holism in their personal and professional life. _AMERICAN HOLISTIC NURSES ASSOCIATION RECOGNIZES SARA SCHELLER AS CHARLOTTE MCGUIRE GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT_ Sara Scheller, BSN, RN, NBC-HWC, HNB-BC, of Point Pleasant, New Jersey was awarded the American Holistic Nurses Association’s Charlotte McGuire Education Scholarship for 2020. The Charlotte McGuire Scholarship Program is made possible through the generous tax deductible donations of AHNA members, friends and benefactors. Since 1987, the program has offered academic scholarships to undergraduate or graduate students in need of assistance to help them through their holistic nursing growth and education.JULY

AHNA now endorses the Integrative Nurse Coach Foundations online course offered by the Integrative Nurse Coach Academy | International Nurse Coach Association (INCA). This Nurse Coach training course is 36 CNE and includes video recorded lectures, role play demonstrations, peer-to-peer practice experiential sessions, and live web conference discussions with board-certified Nurse Coach experts. This facilitates a competency of communication skills that influence lifestyle behavioral change in clients. Self-Care of the nurse is a prominenttheme.

_AHNA APPLAUDS US DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS (VA) FOR IMPLEMENTING THE WHOLE HEALTH SYSTEM OF CARE (WHS) FOR VETERANS_ In response to the opioid crisis, in 2016 the VA began introducing complimentary and integrative methods of patient centered care to address chronic pain through an initiative called the Whole Health System of Care (WHS). The Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) funded 18 sites for a 3-year pilot implementation of WHS. A recent report was released to describe the implementation, utilization and effectiveness measurements of the WHS at 18 VA hospitals. _AHNA RELEASES POSITION STATEMENT ON RACISM AND RACIAL INEQUALITY_

_JHN PUBLISHES SPIRITUALITY THEMED ISSUE_ _The American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) in their Journal of Holistic Nursing (JHN) released a 164-page Spirituality themed Issue filled with research articles on spirituality and their relationship to nursing practice. _AHNA RELEASES HOLISTIC NURSING SELF-CARE STRATEGIES AHNA pledges to continue to support healthcare providers through the COVID-19 pandemic. AHNA is aware that the elements that registered nurses typically use to stay healthy, may be inaccessible during this state of emergency. In response, we have created an evidence-based guide of Holistic Nursing Self-Care Strategies. These simple techniques are designed to sustain the body’s immune system, even when self-care is a brief moment. _ _NOTICE: AHNA TIMELINE FOR CONFERENCE CANCELLATION On or before Wednesday, April 15, 2020 is the established time-line for making a decision regarding cancelling or going forward with the 2020 conference. The cancellation notice, if issued, would also contain the refund policy. Our database vendor is working on programming that would make issuing refunds more efficient, should it be necessary. _The American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) supports the HHS Pain Management Best Practices Inter-Agency Task Force Report recently released. The Report identified gaps and inconsistencies in pain management and offered recommendations for improving pain managementbest practices. _
_• AHNA PENS LETTER TO NIH DIRECTOR FRANCIS COLLINS AHNA President Barry Gallison sent a letter to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Francis S. Collins regarding the urgent need to recruit a licensed registered nurse with doctoral education and the appropriate research background to lead the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR). A non-nurse leading our elite nursing institution and evaluating proposals for nursing research presents a significant challenge to nursing and society. AHNA finds it important that NINR Research Grant funding be spent wisely and be directed and implemented by qualified nurses. We believe such hiring will be positively received by the nursing profession and we are confident will serve the NIH, NINR and the public well._AUGUST

Co-published with the American Nurses Association (ANA), the new publication reflects the most up-to-date and relevant content aligned with Holistic Nursing’s Scope and Standards released in 2015._ _• CALL FOR MANUSCRIPTS SPECIAL ISSUE ON SPIRITUALITY AND HOLISTIC NURSING JOURNAL OF HOLISTIC NURSING The Journal of Holistic Nursing is seeking submission of manuscripts related to spirituality and holistic nursing and how it relates to healthcare. This issue will emphasize the relationship of spirituality to the practice and science of holistic nursing. The deadline of submission of manuscripts is August 15, 2019.
