AIRFIELD RESEARCH GROUP Written by Ian Tyler and published by Blue Rock Publications in December 2018 , priced at £40 . I recently saw a copy of this book and it is similar in style and format to his Cumbrian mining tour-de-force 'Cross Fell and Mines Of The Cumbrian Pennines of which I have a copy and runs to over 600 pages , many illustrated and on good quality paper . AIRFIELD RESEARCH GROUP As I think you know the main element of Starfish sites was fire and the equipment had to be capable of being lit quickly and then 'grow' and maintain the ground fire before the arrival of enemy bombers. Since Starfish were intended to protect cities, if the image in Post 84 is the Wallsey site then I would expect it to have some features to simulate either Birkenhead or Liverpool Docks. AIRFIELD RESEARCH GROUP ARGL was incorporated in 2014 and gained charitable status in the same year with the object ‘To advance the education of the general public by carrying out research into, and maintaining records of, military and civilian airfields and related infrastructure, both current and historic, anywhere in the world’. The charity was created by the amalgamation of its heritage organisations Airfield Research Group and AiX-ARG Archives Ltd. Airfield Research Group, established in 1977, was the main member driven organisation that had established an unparalleled archive of historical records associated with the history and development of airfields. The charity continues proudly to be widely regarded as the UK's foremost authority on the airfieldhistorical record.
With the advent and proliferation of the internet, Airfield Information Exchange was created in 2009 as a forum for the exchange of airfield related information and research. A logical move was to come together with the Airfield Research Group to form a subsidiary, AiX - ARG Archive Ltd and hence the internet forum became the public forum of ARG, eventually culminating in the formation of the charity.ARCHIVE
