MIND THE GAP
During the Covid-19 emergency, with the sudden closure of Higher EducationInstitutions, many academic institutions turned to remote teaching in order to supportstudents to meet their programme learning outcomes. Academic staff at the Instituteof Technology, Carlow were surveyed to ascertain their experiences of this ‘onlinepivot’. This article takes a phenomenological approach to the AISHE-R: 2005-2: HANDBOOK OF ENQUIRY AND PROBLEM-BASED AISHE-R: 2005-2: Handbook of Enquiry and Problem-based Learning Irish Case Studies and International Perspectives. Terry Barrett, Iain Mac Labhrainn and Helen Fallon (Editors). STUDENTS AS PARTNERS: A MODEL TO PROMOTE STUDENT Abstract. The COVID-19 pandemic brought a seismic shift to the ways and means in which higher education institutions (HEIs) approached teaching, learning and assessment provision. The medium and longer-term effects of COVID-19 are likely to have an impact on the approaches of education, to which students and staff could work collaboratively as ‘partners’ in ensuring a student DOING A THEMATIC ANALYSIS: A PRACTICAL, STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE Data analysis is central to credible qualitative research. Indeed the qualitative researcher is often described as the research instrument insofar as his or her ability to understand, describe and interpret experiences and perceptions is key to uncovering meaning in particular circumstances and contexts. While much has been written about qualitative analysis from a theoretical perspective we SCREENCASTING, A TOOL TO FACILITATE ENGAGEMENT WITH The feedback that students receive on their work is a problematic area in Higher Education. Lecturers are concerned by a lack of student engagement with feedback, and students report a lack of feedback being provided, a lack of clarity in the feedback, or being provided too late to apply. It is widely agreed though that feedback can narrow the gap between current and desired performance, and “KEEPING IT REAL”: A REVIEW OF THE BENEFITS, CHALLENGES This article presents the findings of a literature review on authentic assessment and forms part of a collaborative research project by lecturers from diverse disciplines in a large higher education institute. Assessment is an integral part of the learning process and alternative methods of assessment, including authentic assessment, can have many benefits for the learner. USING MICROSOFT EXCEL TO CODE AND THEMATICALLY ANALYSE As the number of learning and teaching continuing professional development (CPD) courses increases in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), so too does the accompanying number of learning innovations being implemented and evaluated. The evaluation process requires valid and reliable data collection and analysis procedures to beestablished.

It explores the student perspective on assessment and feedback processes in four modules delivered by the author. Initially, the assessment literature is reviewed to identify good practice. The All Ireland Society for Higher Education (AISHE) is an independent, membership-based professional society dedicated to the promotion of good practice in learning and teaching throughout the island of Ireland. It represents the academic community across disciplines and communities of practice and also those who support learning and teaching in general. AISHE aims to provide a platform for critical dialogue and sustainable engagement in relation to the core concepts underpinning the very fabric of the Higher Education Community throughout the island of Ireland. Established in 2000, AISHE promotes the development and dissemination of good and innovative practice in our flagship online journal THE ALL IRELAND JOURNAL OF TEACHING AND LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION. AISHE IS AFFILIATED WITH ICED AISHE is affiliated with the International Consortium for Educational Development (ICED–http://icedonline.net ) and the President of AISHE sits on the ICED Council. All AISHE members have the opportunity to sit on the Executive Committee and stand as Executive Officers at the AGM elections, thereby having the opportunity to play an active role in debates that influence decision making in relation to the future directions of higher education.*
