When students are engaged with WELCOMING STUDENTS TO MIDDLE SCHOOL During Pup Camp, the school bustles with activity as students begin their transition to middle school. Pup Camp is a one-day, six-hour summer program for incoming sixth grade students. We have a separate two and one-half hour evening program for the parents. We present each student camper with a t-shirt that welcomes them to our pack—part of PERCEPTIONS OF INCLUSION OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES IN Student Perceptions of Inclusion. According to Siperstein, Parker, Bardon, and Widaman (2007), the perception of middle school children without disabilities (general education students) is largely that students with disabilities should be included, and are indeed welcome, in nonacademic classrooms such as art and physical education. A LETTER TO MY EIGHTH GRADERS 2. Trust yourself. Trust your instincts. If it seems like it’s a sheep in a wolf’s clothing. run! Don’t wait to find out if it’s a sheep or a wolf. My point is that you are a great group of people. I trusted you to not steal candy out of my room. I trusted you in a classroom with my purse sitting right there. RE-LEARNING AND RE-ASSESSING: PRACTICAL TIPS Not everyone is comfortable with re-do’s and re-takes, which are more appropriately recognized as re-learning (or learning properly) and re-assessing.Some of us experience pushback when suggesting these practices to colleagues, then succumb to those pressures thereby denying their use in our classes.RESEARCH SUMMARIES
