ST. PAUL’S, EASTCHESTER St. Paul’s, Eastchester. One of the hidden gems of our county is St. Paul’s Church, Eastchester. The church has been within the City of Mt. Vernon since the late 19th century, but was the original town church for Eastchester, situated on the village green. This arid land is sparsely populated — just 6.6 people per square mile — but its deserts are believed to be the oldest in the world. The flag of three equal bars of blue, white, and orange, with the civic seal in the center, was officially adopted in 1915. The seal, adopted in 1686, depicts the city’s coat of arms, the scrolled legend “SIGILLUM CHILDREN OF A COMMON MOTHER Children of a Common Mother. The 22-yard-tall Peace Arch stands between the city of Blaine in Washington state, and the city of Surrey in the province of British Columbia, demarcating the boundary between the United States of America and the Dominion of Canada. PAPAL MACE FOR ST ANDREWS The silver mace with gold rose details was crafted by Hamilton & Inches of Edinburgh, who also constructed the mace of the Faculty of Medicine at St Andrews over a half-century ago. Their master silversmith Jon Hunt designed the mace, in consultation with Prof Haldane. The mace’s head is reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s dome ofFlorence
