We taste-tested the famous croquant chou (クロッカンシュー) and ALCATRAZ ER: TOKYO’S TERRIFYING PRISON HOSPITAL RESTAURANT Opening hours: Sunday – Thursday 17:00 – 23:30. Friday – Saturday 17:00 – 4:00. How to find Alcatraz ER: Alcatraz ER is a 10-15 minute walk up the main street from Shibuya Station. Take the Hachiko Gate exit from Shibuya station, cross Shibuya Crossing, turn left and walk past the tall Shibuya 109 shopping centre. VAMPIRE CAFE: JAPAN’S SPOOKIEST RESTAURANT If you search for the weirdest, whackiest, craziest, strangest, scariest, spookiest or most unique restaurants in Japan, chances are you’ll come across plenty of references to the Vampire Cafe. ASAKUSA HANAYASHIKI: JAPAN’S OLDEST AMUSEMENT PARK Asakusa Hanayashiki (浅草花やしき) is a small amusement park located in Tokyo.Opened in 1853 at the end of the Edo period, Hanayashiki is the oldest theme park in Japan. You wouldn’t guess it from visiting the park, but these days Hanayashiki is operated by a subsidiary of Namco, the video game company that also runs the J-World and Namja Town theme parks in Ikebukuro. Zaku Zaku (ザクザク) is a store that specialises in their unique cream puffs using fresh ingredients from Hokkaido. We taste-tested the famous croquant chou (クロッカンシュー) and ASAKUSA HANAYASHIKI: JAPAN’S OLDEST AMUSEMENT PARK Asakusa Hanayashiki (浅草花やしき) is a small amusement park located in Tokyo.Opened in 1853 at the end of the Edo period, Hanayashiki is the oldest theme park in Japan. You wouldn’t guess it from visiting the park, but these days Hanayashiki is operated by a subsidiary of Namco, the video game company that also runs the J-World and Namja Town theme parks in Ikebukuro. VAMPIRE CAFE: JAPAN’S SPOOKIEST RESTAURANT If you search for the weirdest, whackiest, craziest, strangest, scariest, spookiest or most unique restaurants in Japan, chances are you’ll come across plenty of references to the Vampire Cafe. LUIDA’S BAR: TOKYO’S DRAGON QUEST BAR When it comes to video games and themed dining, Japan is where it’s at, so it’s no surprise that there are a few video game themed cafes, bars and restaurants in Tokyo. How to find Alcatraz ER: Alcatraz ER is a 10-15 minute walk up the main street from Shibuya Station. Take the Hachiko Gate exit from Shibuya station, cross Shibuya Crossing, turn left and walk past the tall Shibuya 109 shopping centre. THE LOCK-UP: JAPAN’S PRISON THEMED RESTAURANT The Lock-Up is one of two brands of prison themed restaurants in Japan, and it has several branches throughout Tokyo and beyond. We visited both of Shibuya’s prison themed izakayas in one night to compare them, starting with The Lock-Up.
