Specific aims include to quantify and provide threshold variables for climate change-induced regime shifts in fish resource use and production, and to develop tools and guidelines to be used in monitoring programs.SYLVAIN MONTEUX
Research Summary. I am a microbial ecologist interested in low-energy input environments such as permafrost, deep soil and subsurface, and the role microbes play in their biogeochemistry. Climate change induces the thawing of permafrost, with the potential for large greenhouse gases release due to decomposition of previously frozenorganic matter.

Research Summary. My work is primarily seeking to understand how lakes function and their role in the carbon cycle and feedback to climate. I specifically aim at elucidating by quantitative means, the strong potential of factors that control the pathways and turnover times that define the aquatic carbon storage and emission to cause non-linear dynamics with future climate change.KEITH LARSON

ANN-KRISTIN BERGSTRÖM The purpose of this study is to improve knowledge and monitoring of climate impacts on Arctic lakes. Specific aims include to quantify and provide threshold variables for climate change-induced regime shifts in fish resource use and production, and to develop tools and guidelines to be used in monitoring programs.KEITH LARSON

Research Summary. My work is primarily seeking to understand how lakes function and their role in the carbon cycle and feedback to climate. I specifically aim at elucidating by quantitative means, the strong potential of factors that control the pathways and turnover times that define the aquatic carbon storage and emission to cause non-linear dynamics with future climate change. Lakes are typically studied individually, or in small groups in close proximity, and this inhibits identification of mechanisms by which large-scale factors like climate change influence ecosystem patterns and processes.CIRC MEDIA CENTRE

CLIMATE IMPACTS RESEARCH CENTREOUR MISSION
Here at the Climate Impacts Research Centre (CIRC), we conduct interdisciplinary research from detailed process-level studies to comprehensive landscape-level studies in both aquatic and terrestrial Arctic ecosystems. We communicate our research to the scientific community, the public and policy makers focusing on increasing their knowledge about climate and environmental change related impacts on Arctic environments. We provide a scientific platform for research, teaching and public outreach in Abisko, serving a key role in Umeå University’s activities in the Arctic. -------------------------WHAT WE DO
