On July 21, 2020, the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (ASAP) filed a federal lawsuit to protect asylum seekers’ ability to work legally in the United States: CASA v. Wolf. The lawsuit challenges new rules enacted by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that limit the ability of asylum seekers to obtain work authorization. WORK PERMITS FOR ASAP MEMBERS Many ASAP members have had to wait more than 30 days to receive an answer from the U.S. government about their work permit application. Other members have had their work permit applications returned. Some members may have paid the $85 biometrics fee, even though the first work permit application should be free for ASAP members. YOU CAN NOW RESCHEDULE YOUR USCIS APPOINTMENTS IF YOU On January 28, 2021, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that there will be no penalty for rescheduling appointments due to COVID-19.
