These regional panels are non-overlapping geographical areas based on the ITV1 Sky Digital reception regions. Regional viewing is also available for 14 BBC regions. Viewing that takes place in a particular region is reported as viewing from that region, even if the broadcast actually originated from another regional area. Under this system, allUNIVERSES | BARB

THE BARB PANEL
The BARB panel is a sample of carefully recruited households and together, these represent television viewing across the nation. On behalf of BARB, Ipsos Mori interviews over 1000 households each week for the BARB Establishment Survey. This helps us to recognise thetypes of

Across 2020, the impact of coronavirus restrictions on viewing and TV set usage is clear. For the full year, aggregate TV set usage averages 271 minutes a day (based on linear channel viewing, unidentified viewing and viewing to BARB-reported non-linear channels). This is over 30 minutes a day higher than 2019, an increase of 15%. NUMBER OF TV SETS PER HOUSEHOLD Number of TV sets per household. In Q3 2020, Establishment Survey data show that there were 1.35 million UK households without a TV set, a decrease of 234,000 or almost 15% on Q1 2020. As TV viewing grew during various lockdowns, the increase in the number of homes without a TV set was reversed for the first time since Q2 2019. WHAT PEOPLE WATCH: AGE PROFILE OF NEWS VIEWING The proportion of Sky News viewers that are aged 55+ has dropped from 55% to 44%, with particular growth from adults 25-54. BBC News has also grown in each segment within this group. Like Sky News, these shifts in the younger age groups have had an aggregate effect on the overall BBC News channel profile; for the year-to-date, 60% of viewingto

The BARB panel is a sample of carefully recruited households and together, these represent television viewing across the nation. On behalf of BARB, Ipsos Mori interviews over 1000 households each week for the BARB Establishment Survey. This helps us to recognise thetypes of

Across 2020, the impact of coronavirus restrictions on viewing and TV set usage is clear. For the full year, aggregate TV set usage averages 271 minutes a day (based on linear channel viewing, unidentified viewing and viewing to BARB-reported non-linear channels). This is over 30 minutes a day higher than 2019, an increase of 15%. NUMBER OF TV SETS PER HOUSEHOLD Number of TV sets per household. In Q3 2020, Establishment Survey data show that there were 1.35 million UK households without a TV set, a decrease of 234,000 or almost 15% on Q1 2020. As TV viewing grew during various lockdowns, the increase in the number of homes without a TV set was reversed for the first time since Q2 2019. WHAT PEOPLE WATCH: AGE PROFILE OF NEWS VIEWING The proportion of Sky News viewers that are aged 55+ has dropped from 55% to 44%, with particular growth from adults 25-54. BBC News has also grown in each segment within this group. Like Sky News, these shifts in the younger age groups have had an aggregate effect on the overall BBC News channel profile; for the year-to-date, 60% of viewingto

To ensure that the BARB panel properly represents the UK population, a range of data on the characteristics of television households are needed. These are derived from the establishment survey, a continuous survey involving approximately 53,000 household interviews a year, carried out, on behalf of BARB, byIpsos MORI.

The BARB panel is a sample of 5,300 households that represent television viewing in all types of households across the UK. The panel is essential because it tells us what is being watched, who is watchingand which

The Establishment Survey tracks each generation of the three main console brands: Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo. NUMBER OF TV SETS PER HOUSEHOLD Number of TV sets per household. In Q3 2020, Establishment Survey data show that there were 1.35 million UK households without a TV set, a decrease of 234,000 or almost 15% on Q1 2020. As TV viewing grew during various lockdowns, the increase in the number of homes without a TV set was reversed for the first time since Q2 2019. WHAT PEOPLE WATCH: AGE PROFILE OF NEWS VIEWING The proportion of Sky News viewers that are aged 55+ has dropped from 55% to 44%, with particular growth from adults 25-54. BBC News has also grown in each segment within this group. Like Sky News, these shifts in the younger age groups have had an aggregate effect on the overall BBC News channel profile; for the year-to-date, 60% of viewingto
