INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR APPLICANTS: 2020 HARPO FOUNDATION EMERGING ARTIST FELLOWSHIP RESIDENCY AT THE SANTA FE ART INSTITUTE (NM), WITHSTIPEND
Posted on August 18, 2019by sjsartidea
International Call for Applicants: 2020 Harpo Foundation Emerging Artist Fellowship Residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute (NM), withstipend
DEADLINE: OCTOBER 1ST, 2019 The HARPO Foundation Emerging Artist Fellowship Residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute is a prestigious award established in 2013 to provide an emerging visual artist with strong artistic ability and an evolving practice, the space and time to explore ideas and start new projects in a residency context at a pivotal moment in their professionaldevelopment.
The HARPO Emerging Artist Fellow receives: -$500 travel stipend -A one-month residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute -A private room and bath -A semi-private studio space -Access to common facilities and basic tools -A discounted membership to MAKE Santa Fe -Breakfast food items – Two communal meals – Participation in monthly open studios In 2020, the HARPO Fellowship residency can take place either January 6th – 31st, February 3rd – 28th, March 2nd – 27th, August 31st – September 25th, October 5th – 30th, or November 2nd – 27th. Eligibility: This fellowship is open to international applicants who are self-defined under-recognized* visual artists** over the age of 25 andnot enrolled in a degree program at the time of the applicationdeadline.
*To determine whether an artist is “under-recognized” the selection committee looks at an artist’s resume and overall presence in the field. If they see that the artist has already achieved a certain amount of prominence and recognition because they have (1) presented their work at venues such as major museums, art centers, international biennales, (2) received multiple notable awards and grants, (3) enjoy the representation of a prominent commercial gallery, they would likely not consider the applicant to be “under-recognized” by the field. As a general rule, the HARPO Foundation prefers that their funding go toward providing opportunities and encouragement to artists who have yet to receive this level of support. **Visual Artists (e.g., Painting, Illustration, Sculpture, Photography, Printmaking). Creative writing, dance, theater, film, digital/new media, performance art, and site specific installation art fall outside the purview of the HARPO Foundation. However, a proposal with an interdisciplinary approach may be considered as long as it has a strong visual art component. TO APPLY VIA SLIDEROOM: HTTPS://SFAI.SLIDEROOM.COM/#/LOGIN/PROGRAM/50454 WEBSITE LINK: HTTPS://SFAI.ORG/FELLOWSHIPS/HARPO-FELLOWSHIP/ About: The Harpo Foundation was established in 2006 to support artists who are under recognized by the field. The foundation seeks to stimulate creative inquiry to encourage new modes of thinking about art. We view the definitions of art and artist to be open-ended and expansive. The Foundation’s grant program awards 7-10 grants annually. Grants are made directly to artists to support their development and to non-profit organizations in support of new work byartists.

Established in 1998 by the generosity of the family of painter Richard Diebenkorn—both an alumnus and longtime faculty member of SFAI—the semester-long fellowship provides an opportunity for artists to teach at SFAI and have sufficient time and financial support to pursue their own practice. Through its semester-long structure, the Fellowship not only offers each participating artist an invaluable opportunity to further their own practice, it also leaves a deep, lasting impression on SFAI’s students. This prestigious award has been given to 21 artists since 1998, including Brad Brown, Shaun O’Dell, Iona Rozeal Brown, Josephine Taylor, Monica Majoli, Polly Apfelbaum, and Liam Everett. See a complete list of recipients here.
ELIGIBILITY: THIS YEAR’S FELLOWSHIP IS ONLY OPEN TO ARTISTS WHO RESIDE IN THE UNITED STATES AND _OUTSIDE_ OF THE NINE SAN FRANCISCOBAY AREA COUNTIES.

Applicants must reside in the United States and outside the San Francisco Bay Area. (In alternate years, the Richard Diebenkorn Teaching Fellowship is awarded to artists from the Bay Area.) The review committee will consider the applicant’s experience and appropriateness to the SFAI mission and curriculum, as well as the quality of their work and writtenstatements.
FELLOWSHIP AWARD: The Richard Diebenkorn Teaching Fellow will receive $25,000 USD in compensation to teach two courses in the fall 2020 semester, give a public lecture in the Visiting Artists and Scholars Lecture Series (VAS), and engage with the SFAI community through individual student critiques, academic programs, and activities. SITE:BROOKLYN (NY), INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR ARTISTS: DRAWING Posted on September 19, 2019by sjsartidea
SITE:BROOKLYN (NY), INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR ARTISTS: DRAWING DEADLINE: OCTOBER 21ST, 2019, 11:59PM MSTFrom their call :
Site:Brookyn is asking you to think small! In the contemporary art world, the notion that “bigger is better” is everywhere. From massive sculptural installations to giant canvases, the small, delicate, and pared down seem to have little place. Against such an idea, this show asks artists to go in the opposite direction and think about the intimacy and beauty of art that explores space, color, and form on a miniature scale. Site:Brooklyn is looking for works across all mediums — painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, video, and multimedia. Our goal is to exhibit a wide array of work, truly representing the expansive world of small art. What is the relationship between recycling and art? We constantly seek out ways to deal with what we produce, _Drawing_ Drawing has been radically transformed in the last 100 years, as countless artists reimagined the traditional concepts of drawing and expanded the medium’s definition beyond gesture and form. This expanded definition included mark-making that ventured off the paper, into multimedia, film, sculpture and much else. However, in recent years, many artists have returned to a more gestural and representational mode. In this new and dynamic tension between tradition and experimental visions, Site:Brooklyn is looking for works, across all mediums and processes, which showcase the diversity and range of drawing’s place in contemporary art. JUROR: Olga Valle Tetkowski is currently deputy director at The Drawing Center in NYC. Has held positions as administrator of curatorial projects and curator at the Bard Graduate Center NYC, assistant curator at the Museum of Art and Design, Urban Glass and Paul Robeson Galleries at Rutgers University. ELIGIBILITY: This is a juried exhibition for artists working in drawing across all mediums. This exhibition is open to all artists 18 years of age or older. MAXIMUM SIZE: 72” X 60” X 12” D All artwork must be priced for sale. Artwork cannot be withdrawn, nor sales shipped, before the end of the exhibit. Site:Brooklyn will retain a 50% commission on all exhibition sales. The price represented on the artist entry form will be the sale price.Entry fee.
