MARCH 17, 2020 ‑ BROWARD COUNTY PROPERTY APPRAISER’S OFFICECOVID-19 UPDATE
As of March 17, Broward County has not closed the Broward County Governmental Center located at 115 South Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Our office is continuing to work; however, the health and safety of the public and of our employees is paramount so our office will be closed to the public. Our employees interact in proximity with the public and I do not want one of our staff members to contract the coronavirus and/or to pass it on to our residents. Further, many residents who visit our office every day are residents that may be most vulnerable such as seniors or residents who have significant health conditions. TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC AND OUR EMPLOYEES, THE BROWARD COUNTY PROPERTY APPRAISER’S OFFICE IS CLOSING OUR OFFICE TO THE PUBLIC BEGINNING MARCH 18 AND WILL REOPEN WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO. Communication with our office can be handled electronically via website, email, fax or phone. You may file for Homestead Exemption online at bcpa.net/homestead.asp . Property owners who both owned and made the property their permanent residence as of January 1, 2020 may file for 2020 Homestead Exemption and all other exemptions until September 18, 2020. If you purchased your home after January 1, 2020, you will be pre-filing for the 2021 tax year. The deadline to file for all 2021 exemptions is September 20, 2021. Information about the Senior, Veteran and all other exemptions can be obtained on our website at www.bcpa.net .All forms are available under the “Download Forms” tab (www.bcpa.net/forms-dl.asp) and can be emailed to our office at CSEmgmt@bcpa.netor faxed to (954) 357-6188 . Completed applications can also be mailed to our office at 115 S. Andrews Avenue, Room 111, Fort Lauderdale FL33301.
You may also call our office at (954) 357-5579 and we can fill out your exemption application with you on the phone and place it in the mail to you with a self-addressed envelope so you may complete same and send it back to us for processing. The Tangible Personal Property (TPP) Return filing deadline is April 1, 2020. The 30-Day TPP Extension Request Deadline is March 31. The extension request form is available under the “Download Forms” tab at www.bcpa.net or www.bcpa.net/forms-dl.asp . You may email your completed TPP return or your extension request form to tpp-docs@bcpa.net or faxed to (954) 357-6734 or(954) 357-6160 .

These tax bills would have become delinquent if not paid in full by April 1, 2020. _Pursuant to Order of Emergency Waiver-Deviation #20-52-DOR-01, the Florida Department of Revenue extended the 2019 property tax payment due date to April 15, 2020 to assist those adversely affected by COVID-19._ After this date, any taxes still owing become delinquent. Broward County's Records, Taxes and Treasury Division is responsible for the billing and collecting of property taxes and has posted this information on their website at https://www.broward.org/RecordsTaxesTreasury/Pages/Default.aspx. The Property Appraiser does NOT set your tax rates. Our office is responsible for ensuring the fair assessment (value) of all properties and applying all exemptions. Your County Commission, School Board, City Commission, Hospital District, and other boards set your taxrates each year.

That is why our residential appraisers are busy these days inspecting, measuring and photographing the exteriors of properties throughout Broward. Our appraisers are easy to recognize: all of them wear official shirts clearly identifying them as BCPA staff, and each carries a BCPA photo identification card and badge.
