If the files are not able to be legally downloaded from here, please let me know so I can fix the problem ASAP. A fair few of the pictures I use are from a few magazines, and although I should not be copying and using them in this manner, I BILL SHERWOOD'S MODIFIED 4AGE PAGE Welcome, from sunny Australia! The Modified 4AGE Page. In these pages, I talk about the various mods needed to take the Toyota 4AGE 1600cc engine from as low as 115hp all the way up to 240hp in 10hp increments, and beyond with turbos. BILL SHERWOOD'S STOCK 4AGE PAGE And to compare the two properly, here's both together. Note that these pictures where taken from slightly different angles, and so the port divider isn't the same position in the top & bottom of the picture, but the actual port faces relative to each other are pretty muchcorrect
BILL SHERWOOD'S STOCK 4AGE STORY On the left is the oil pump usually found on the big port engine, the one in the middle is usually found on all others, and the one on the right with the wider teeth is also found in most other engines. BILL SHERWOOD'S FRASER PAGE. In late June 2001 I bought a generation three Toyota 3SGE and a Lexus IS200 6-speed gearbox for it. There was some work to be done to make the gearbox bell housing attach to the back of the 3SGE, but we did that before with the K-50 Toyota gearbox to the back of the Suzuki racing car engine so we knew what had to be done. BILL SHERWOOD'S AE-86, 3SGE CONVERSION PAGE Bill Sherwood's AE-86, 3SGE conversion page. Welcome, from sunny Australia! My AE-86 Corolla Page. The Altezza 3SGE conversion detailed. 2-7-2003. The conversion has begun! Out came the low-kilometre 4AGE, and it's now waiting to go into the Starlet. Here you can see the NEVO under-drive pulleys quite clearly, and the 4AGZEcrank angle sensor.
BILL SHERWOOD'S ENGINE PAGE Some thoughts on the results above 1. Moving the inlet cam around has a greater effect than for the same amount for the exhaust. 2. Advancing the inlet and retarding the exhaust gives more mid-range power, at the expense of bottom-end and top-end. BILL SHERWOOD'S CRAZY IDEAS, DIESEL AIRCRAFT ENGINE A company in the UK has been building a similar engine to what I have described above. They use an alloy case and gears instead of ceramic & belts, and have added a small compressor for more altitude capability, but it's otherwise much the same. BILL SHERWOOD'S ENGINE PAGE Welcome, from sunny Australia! Crank, Con-rods, and Pistons. The standard equipment these days is of a pretty high quality, and most probably the only part you'll need to change is the pistons (maybe) and perhaps con-rod bolts. BILL SHERWOOD'S 4 VALVE CYLINDER HEADS VS 2 VALVE CYLINDER The normal limit is more like 8,500 rpm or so, depending on the size/mass of the valve gear. A SOHC with followers is somewhere in-between a twin cam and a push-rod engine. So, this is one of the big advantages of a twin cam over any two valve engine - The valves are much smaller, and so the valve springs can be so much lighter &smaller.

Other stuff that's important Cam timing On the preceding page, I've talked about such-and-such a camshaft duration, but I didn't mention the actual timing of the cam that should be used. Everyone talks about having a cam of, say, 304°, but the one thing that's very important that they're missing out on is just where to put the BILL SHERWOOD'S STOCK 4AGE INFO There are bascially three types of pistons - One for the 16v naturally aspirated, 20v, and supercharged 4AGZE. The 16v ones come with 18mm and 20mm gudgeon pins, (18mm = TVIS only) the 20v are 20mm and have three flycuts for the three inlet valves, (all 4AGE pistons have flycuts for each valve though) and the 4AGZE shares the 20mm gudgeonpin diameter.
BILL SHERWOOD'S MODIFIED 4AGE PAGE, PAGE THREE An advertisement I scanned from a Japanese magazine. It's a new bell housing for the W-55/56/57/58 Toyota gearbox, which can easily take300 ft-lbs.
BILL SHERWOOD'S 4 VALVE CYLINDER HEADS VS 2 VALVE CYLINDER One of the best mass production engines around is the Toyota Lexus V-8, which is 4 litres, has four camshafts, and four valves per cylinder. It's a lot like two Toyota 3SGE's joined together at an angle, as they share similar bores & strokes. The engine is used in BILL SHERWOOD'S FRASER PAGE. Bill Sherwood's Fraser page. A Tribute to Man's First Powered Flight. By Richard Pearse, on the 31st of March, 1903. Popular history has it that the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk in the US were the first to fly, but this is not true! BILL SHERWOOD'S ENGINE THEORY PAGE Welcome, from sunny Australia! Some car & engine performance - Theory & practice. I tend to ramble on a bit, so you may not find a lot of this stuff very interesting! BILL SHERWOOD'S CARS My favourite road car is my 1984 Toyota AE-86 Sprinter, also known as a GT Corolla overseas. It’s powered by the superb Toyota 4AGE twin cam 1600cc 16 valve engine. The current engine is a somewhat modified ‘100kw’ (134hp) RWD ‘small port’ 4AGE - The mods include a lot of headwork, a pair of 290° 0.380” lift cams, a 20v 4AGE inlet manifold, forged pistons, lightened crank & rods BILL SHERWOOD'S FRASER PAGE. BILL SHERWOOD'S ENGINE PAGE Speaking of 4-2-1 extractors, this is the WRONG WAY to do it on a four cylinder engine! A 4-2-1 system must have cylinders #1 & #4 joined up, and #2 & #3 joined up, BILL SHERWOOD'S MODIFIED 4AGE PAGE, PAGE THREE An advertisement I scanned from a Japanese magazine. BILL SHERWOOD'S FRASER PAGE. This is the car's first outing in public as such, at a Clubbie drive day. This is closer to how the car will look long-term. The main difference will be that the exhaust is going to be a carbon muffler and the pipe will exit out the left hand side, just in front of theleft-rear mudguard.
