SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!CHESTER GOULDDICK TRACYGIL KANEMARVEL COMICSSUPER-TEAM FAMILYTEAM UP Atari Force was alone with its own story and continuity, while ROM was placed squarely in the middle of the Marvel Universe, with familiar heroes and villains crossing paths with the titular hero. Perhaps if DC had made Atari Force a pert of the DCU, their comic would have had a wider appeal than it did. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: THE SHADOW AND V It's been cool to see pulp heroes like The Shadow getting more attention in comics lately. I love the character and his period setting and have enjoyed his adventures in different media. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: THE ALL-STAR SQUADRON All-Star Squadron was the first team book that I began collecting as a 3rd grader in the early '80s. That series was the root of my later facination for World War 2, Cold War politics, and 19th/20th century international affairs/foriegn policy. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: SHERLOCK HOLMES AND I am a huge fan of Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, and I am looking forward to finally seeing it return at the end of the year, even if only for a single special. Both actors are understandably in demand these days, and while I am a fan of Star Trek and Doctor Strange as well, I do wish they had time to work on more episodes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famed sleuth. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: THE X-MEN VS. STARRO This was not an easy cover to make. I know it may just look like heroes lined up but it took a lot of tweaking to get right. I've been wanting to use Starro again for a while, he is such a great villain. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: BLACK PANTHER VS. THE Some distant footage of The Black Panther on the set of Captain America: Civil War has surfaced, and I have to say he looks great. I am really looking forward to seeing how he fit into the story and watching him in live action. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: MARTIAN MANHUNTER AND I am very curious to see how the upcoming John Carter film does at the box office. The trailers seem cool enough, but I haven't heard much buzz about this movie, so I don't know how much interest there is. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: DARKSEID VS. THANOS With Justice League set to begin filming early next year, we will hopefully finally get a more solid idea of who the main villain of the film will be. Will DC go ahead and use Darkseid, who was the first foe that the current incarnation of the JLA faced - or will they deem him too close to Thanos? SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: THE CRIME SYNDICATE Long time readers of this blog know that Spider-Man was originally rejected for membership in the JLA, until he was finally invited in last Christmas. Of course, membership can have it's drawbacks, such as gaining a whole new set of enemies. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: COMMISSIONER GORDON The one rumor about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that I really hope is not true is that in the DC cinematic universe, Jim Gordon will already be dead. This would be a waste of Batman's second best supporting character, especially since it would mean we wouldn't seehim in
SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: THE SHADOW AND V It's been cool to see pulp heroes like The Shadow getting more attention in comics lately. I love the character and his period setting and have enjoyed his adventures in different media. That series was the root of my later facination for World War 2, Cold War politics, and 19th/20th century international affairs/foriegn policy. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: THE TEEN TITANS the trouble with bringing back expanded books like those mentioned would be cover price id see either a 4.99 or 5.99 price and that would be too much for most collecters each month to commit to SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: DICK TRACY AND SPIDER-MAN Seeing it here it makes total sense, but for years I've seen Marvel interrupt stories to include labeled dioramas of their heroes' environs (the most often redrawn one probably being a cross-section of the Baxter Building) and I never noticed the obvious precedent in the Dick Tracy strip for 'arrowed' captions pointing out his two-way wrist radio (and later TV), a villain's hidden weapon, etc. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: DOCTOR FATE AND MAGIK DC has solicited a new Doctor Fate series, which I was glad to learn because I have always thought he was a really cool hero with a great look. Checking out the solicitations, though, it seems that they are going to have an all-new character take up the mantle rather than use Kent Nelson or one of the others who have previously assumed the role. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: SCALPHUNTER AND RED WOLF Even this Lobo is better than the current waste of space lobo DC has running around. I really miss cool 90s Lobo. Great cover, and long live a mega western crossover. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: POWER GIRL AND POWER MAN I like Power Girl and I am glad to see that she will be getting another turn in the spotlight with the upcoming Worlds' Finest series, especially since that book will be featuring art by George Perez and Kevin Maguire. Unfortunately, Power Girl is yet another victim of SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: DARKSEID VS. THANOS With Justice League set to begin filming early next year, we will hopefully finally get a more solid idea of who the main villain of the film will be. Will DC go ahead and use Darkseid, who was the first foe that the current incarnation of the JLA faced - or will they deem him too close to Thanos? Perhaps if DC had made Atari Force a pert of the DCU, their comic would have had a wider appeal than it did. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: THE FLASH AND ANT-MAN I thought that Avengers: Age of Ultron was a great way to kick of the summer movie season. The action scenes were amazing - I am really going to have to see it a few more times to take it all in. The Hulk/Iron Man fight lived up to the hype and The Vision was incrediblywell realized.
SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: FIRESTAR AND MISS MARTIAN I have to admit that when Miss Martian was introduced in the comics, I rolled my eyes a bit. I know there is a strong thread of legacy heroes running through the DCU, but SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: THE JLA & JSA AND When The Death of Captain Marvel was first released, I didn't live near any place that sold the fancy new Graphic Novel format that it was presented in, so it was a few years before I got my hands on a copy.It was worth the wait. The death of a main character and stories that include dozens of heroes are commonplace now, but back then they were rare enough that it truly felt like a special SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: NICK FURY JOINS G.I. JOE When Tom Zilla, (a Patron of the site in good standing) suggested a Fury/G.I. Joe team-up, I just had to smack my head because I hadn't thought of it before. It really is a natural pairing. With all of the comics, cartoons and movies that have come along in the last few decades, G.I. Joe has a different meaning to fans of today than when Iwas a kid.
SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: HAWKMAN AND THE SUB Hawkman is an impressive looking character in the comics, but is quite tough to pull of in live action. No matter how well built the performer may be, their arms and chest still tend to appear scrawny when wearing the large helmet and wings. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: DOCTOR MID-NITE AND These guys both have pretty impractical costumes for crime fighting, but I give them a pass because they just look so cool. An all-white costume is probably not the best choice for a night-based hero like Moon Knight, and Dr. Mid-Nite's duds look kind of heavy and clunky forrunning around in.
SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: BOOSTER GOLD AND Watching the episodes of Justice League Unlimited and Batman: The Brave and the Bold that feature Booster Gold really remind me how fun the character is. With all the recent DC movie announcements being Batman-related, I hope they haven't forgotten about a Booster Gold (or is that Booster/Blue Beetle?) movie, as he has a ton of potential to deliver a fun superhero romp. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: MR. T AND THE DEFENDERS Dave sez, Ha! Awww, yeah! The only thing better than seeing The Hulk catch Iron Man was seeing The Hulk standing assembled with the otherAvengers.

SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: MR. T AND THE DEFENDERS Well, the new Avengers trailer has been released and we finally got a good look at The Hulk in action. That shot of him catching Iron Man in mid-air looked awesome! SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: THE VISION AND ASTRO BOY I watched the recent CGI animated Astro Boy movie, and despite all of the current day technology that went into it, it just didn't have the same magic for me as the classic cartoons. There's something about those black an d white episodes that was kind of cool. The robotic character I really want to see, though, will be in action this Summer. I can't wait until we get to see the birth of The SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: THE NEW TEEN TITANS George Perez on The Avengers was amazing! I think I followed him fro The Avengers to Justice League of America and then to New Teen Titans. Off and on I think I stuck with The Avengers through Hank Pym's trial for the Egghead incident. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: THE NEW TEEN TITANS Here are two great teams that I wish could recapture some of the magic they had in their prime. The Teen Titans never quite recovered from the loss of Perez and Wolfman for me, despite some very nice work from creators like Tom Grummett, Geoff Johns and Dan Jurgens. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: SGT. ROCK AND THE Of course this would be the android Human Torch, though I imagine the image you used was Johnny Storm. This does look like it would be a fascinating "origin story" for yet another version, though -- a "prequel" Human Torch, if you will -- or maybe one of the android'sfirst adventures.
SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: BLACK LIGHTNING VS Dave sez, Now that is one cool cover! The story of Black Lightning/Tony Isabella/DC is a very sad and tragic one. I now look back at the issue where Black Lightning was hazed/evaluated for membership by the JLA with sadness. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: BATMAN AND THE HULK A blog presenting covers to imaginary comic books featuring the greatest team ups that never happened but should have! SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: SPIDER-MAN AND THE Perhaps they could forego any undue retooling and reissuing of an origin movie by having it so that Spider-Man is the Marvel Movie-verse's first trans-dimensional adventure, with Peter Parker and his mythos existing in a pocket universe that _should_ be part of their own, but has diverged somehow. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: GREEN LANTERN AND NOVA This would have been a cool team up anyway, but now that I understand there is a Nova Corps in addition to the Green Lantern Corps, it iseven more fitting.
SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: THE NEW TEEN TITANS Even though I wasn't all that familiar with the DNAgents, I thought that it was pretty cool when they had a pseudo-crossover with the New Teen Titans. This Titans battled a very similar looking team called the RECOMbatants in their comic, and the DNAgents followed suit by meeting up with a team of Titans doppelgangers in their title. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: GREEN LANTERN AND Well, we were teased with the rumor that Chris Pine would be playing Hal Jordan in the upcoming Justice League and Green Lantern Corps films, but it turns out he will be Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman, as originally rumored. The latest name I have heard for the role of Hal Jordan is Jake Gyllenhaal, which I SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: ELASTI-GIRL AND The Incredibles is one of my favorite Pixar films, and that is saying a lot because I pretty much like them all. A sequel has finally been announced. and I hope that they can meet the high standards of the first installment. Pixar has a decent track record for sequels - Sure, Cars 2 was not as great as their usual fare, but I thoroughly enjoyed the follow ups to Toy Story and Monsters, Inc. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: METAMORPHO AND SPIDER-MAN I especially like the Snoopy/Bone back-up feature (not half as Jeff Smith would, I'll bet). But as much as they have a physical resemblence I always thought that, functionally, the Bone/Phoney/Smiley trio worked more like the Mickey/Donald/Goofy trio in the "Walt Disney Comics and Stories" serials. SUPER-TEAM FAMILY: THE LOST ISSUES!: THE NEW TEEN TITANS Aw, yeah, Titans! You can spotlight the Titans any day and twice on Sunday! Can't wait for Part Deux! I think I've just become That Guy. There has been much speculation that JJ Abrams will be taking the reigns of the DCEU now that he has a huge production deal with Warner Brothers. Most are guessing that his first film will be a Superman project, which could be cool - but what I would really like to see is his take on The Green Lantern Corps. Yes, he can be derivative at times, but he knows how to make a space epic look great. Make sure you come back tomorrow for the thrilling conclusion! Posted by Ross at 6:58 AM8 comments

MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2019 STAR-LORD AND GREEN LANTERN I remember seeing the first_ Guardians of the Galaxy_ movie, and thinking what a good solution it was to have Star-Lord's mask appear and disappear with a click of a button on his neck. I could accept it with alien technology and it meant we could see the actor's face more. Marvel, however, has really taken the idea and run with it. Now it seems like everyone has these magical types of helmets. Iron Man, War Machine, Ant-Man, The Wasp, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Yellowjacket... pretty much anyone who wears a helmet seems to have access to that movie-friendly yet improbable tech. I love the movies, but that's always been a minor nit pick for me. Star-Lord met Hal Jordan in STF #2604... This is only Part One of a Three-Part epic - so make sure that you return tomorrow for the middle chapter! Posted by Ross at 7:20 AM12 comments

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2019 ELONGATED MAN AND MOON KNIGHT IN: "I HATE YOU, MAN" Back by popular demand! The boys return for another thriller due to overwhelming interest in their unique partnership. OK, maybe that's not completely true... I'm the only one demanding this team. What can I say, I like them together! This is the third appearance of the MK/EM team - Ralph came to the rescue in STF #2518, and they first started working together in STF #2169... Posted by Ross at 7:36 AM18 comments

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2019 WILDCAT VS. THE CHAMPION One of my all-time favorite comics is _Marvel Two-In-One Annual_ #7, which introduced The competition based Elder of the Universe, The Champion. He took on all of the heavy hitters in the Marvel Universe and the result was in my opinion the best Ben Grimm comic ever printed. I thought it might be fun to have The Champion face off against DC's premiere boxer/hero. Like The Thing, Wildcat just doesn't know how to quit, even if the odds against him areoverwhelming.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2019 CODE: RED IN: "MARS NEEDS GINGERS!" The De-Gingering of DC continues. Lightning Lad is the latest character to lose his red hair. What do they have against us gingers? They are always killing them off or changing their appearance to non-gingers. When a ginger character makes the leap to movies or TV, the red hair seems like the first thing to go. It's enough to make a guy feel unwanted. Code: Red first appeared in STF #1293... Posted by Ross at 6:04 AM13 comments

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2019 MARVEL ZOMBIES IN THE HOUSE OF MYSTERY One of the best parts of _Spider-Man: Far From Home_ was how Mysterio's illusions were depicted. With the ever changing scenery and giant versions of the villain, it was just like the comic pages coming to life. A great Easter Egg was Tony Stark rising from the grave in full armor, which clearly evoked the_ Marvel Zombies _version of Iron Man - too cool! Posted by Ross at 6:07 AM19 comments

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2019 SPACE GHOST VS. DARKSEID The live action _Scooby-Doo _movie may have not been a masterpiece, but it did well enough at the box office to warrant sequels. I wonder why we haven't seen more Hanna-Barbera properties given the big screen treatment. Space Ghost would be my first choice, although The Herculoids or Jonny Quest would be great to see as well. Heck, the should get a whole interconnected HBCU going! Posted by Ross at 6:03 AM14 comments

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2019 SGT. FURY AND THE CREATURE COMMANDOS IN: "TAKING TRANSYLVANIA!" As a fan of both superheroes and classic monster movies, The Creature Commandos was always a concept that appealed to me, since it kept a foot in both of those genres. I am surprised that (to my knowledge) DC never teamed them up with Sgt. Rock. Nick Fury would later meet the Creature Commandos while in S.H.I.E.L.D. in STF #1172... MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2019 SPIDER-MAN AND THE CREEPER IN: "SOMETHING SINISTER THIS WAY CREEPS!" Well, It looks like Spider-Man will be staying in the MCU a little while longer, for one more solo movie and an appearance in another Marvel event film. This is very good news, as they will now be able to provide a resolution to the cliffhanger we were left with at the end of _Spider-Man: Far From Home_. Most are assuming another Avengers film for his other appearance, but I am hoping to see him with The Fantastic Four. I always liked his friendship with The Human Torch in the comics, and it would be great to see that played out on the bigscreen.
This is the third meeting between Spidey and The Creeper on this blog. ThEY last met in STF #306and
before that, they were the very first team-up when I switched over to Super-Team Family way back in STF #1...

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2019 MACHINE MAN AND CYBORG Machine Man is at the top of my list of Marvel characters that I really want to see on the big screen. I'd prefer him in his original version, as used on this cover, rather than the more human look he adopted in_ Nextwave_. Now that The Vision has been destroyed (we'll see if he truly returns in _Wanda/Vision_), Aaron Stack could take on the role of a robot discovering humanity. Posted by Ross at 8:00 AM8 comments

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2019 DAREDEVIL AND GREEN LANTERN IN: "TRIAL... AND HORROR!" Daredevil teamed with the Hal Jordan Green Lantern in STF #1528 and later on in STF #1960... I thought it might be interesting to discover just who it was that recommended Matt Murdock to Hal for membership in the GLC in those issues. Who Better than Alan Scott? DD's original costume always looked more Golden Age than Silver Age in design to me, anyway, so I think these guys look good together. Posted by Ross at 8:00 AM29 comments

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2019 SNAKE PLISSKEN AND INDIANA JONES I can still remember going over to my friend's house right after he saw _Raiders of the Lost Ark_ when it first came out. He was raving about how good it was, and told me, "There's more action in the first 10 minutes than in most other complete movies!" I was a giant Stephen Spielberg fan since seeing _Jaws_ and _Close Encounters of the Third Kind_, so I was already interested, and this reaction really made me want to see it. I did soon after, and it did not disappoint. It still has better action than most other movies out there, not to mention the great performances, score, sets andlocations.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2019 GREEN ARROW AND THE BLACK WIDOW At first I wasn't all that excited about a solo Black Widow film. It sound like it might be pretty cool though. Wth The Red Guardian, Taskmaster, and fellow Black Widow Yelena Belova in the mix, there should be plenty of drama and action. Plus, the events of Avengers: Endgame will give all the proceedings a deeper significance. Hopefully Hawkeye will make an appearance and we finally find out just what went down in Budapest. Green Arrow first encountered Black Widow with Daredevil in STF#1935...

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2019 DOCTOR STRANGE AND DOCTOR MID-NITE Doctor Mid-Nite has one of my favorite Golden Age costume designs. It always kind of reminded me of a pirate for some reason. It looks like something that someone would actually pull together with random items of clothing. Even with five colors it all works well together. Bob Greenwade, a Patron of This Blog, suggested this doctorly meeting, thanks Bob! Posted by Ross at 6:06 AM18 comments

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2019 DOC SAMSON AND RAVEN The _She-Hulk_ Disney+ series will be bringing us the adventures of a gamma-powered attorney soon. What better place to also introduce a gamma powered therapist? Ty Burrell appeared as Doctor Leonard Samson in_ The Incredible Hulk_, so he's already technically in the MCU. I want to see the green haired muscled up version though, so there would have to be some re-casting. I think a bodybuilder with acting chops could pull off the role, no need for CGI. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2019 AGENTS OF ATLAS AND MARTIAN MANHUNTER I quite liked The Agents of Atlas when they were introduced. It was an interesting team of offbeat characters that paid respect to Marvel's long publishing history. I see that there is a new version of the group out now, but only Agent Jimmy Woo of the original line up is included in that, working with an all-Asian roster. I've seen Gorilla Man appearing in some _Avengers_ titles, hopefully the rest of the original team will find new homes as well. Posted by Ross at 6:28 AM18 comments

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2019 COLOSSAL BOY AND GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY The Legion of Super-Heroes seems to be making a return in the comics, this time under the pen of Brian Michael Bendis. I haven't checked it out, but it seems like Jon Kent will be the Superboy of this incarnation. I'll order it digitally in trade if reviews are good. My one concern is that while I like Bendis and he often comes up with cool concepts, I find that he tends to make most of his characters speak in the same "voice" - that could be a problem in with a team that has as large a cast as the LSH does. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2019 THE JOKER AND MADCAP_
_ _Joker_ starring Joaquin Phoenix is getting a lot of critical praise. I'm not sure how much it will reflect the villain we know from the comics, but I am definitely curious to see it as just a character study. The influences from movies like _Taxi Driver_ and The_ King of Comedy_ are evident in the trailers, and having Robert DeNiro in a supporting role invites the comparisons even more. I'm just going to consider it an Elseworlds version of the Clown Prince of Crime and enjoy it for what it is. Posted by Ross at 7:36 AM12 comments

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2019DOC SAVAGE AND OMAC
There have been some mention about Doc Savage headed to the big screen over the years, but nothing ever really seems to pick up any steam. I remember Arnold Schwarzenegger being mentioned for the role years ago, and more recently The Rock has been suggested to take it on. Alas, Ron Ely remains the only live action Doc Savage that I know of. If handled properly, it could be a great cross between superhero movies and Indiana Jones-style cliffhangers. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2019 POWER MAN & IRON FIST AND DOCTOR WHO The Netflix Marvel shows ended just when things were getting good. All the pieces were in place for the Daughters of the Dragon to formally join forces. Iron Fist and Power Man were both at crossroads, and I was ready for them to get together to form Heroes for Hire. Alas, it will be a year or two before Marvel can start using them in the MCU. Hopefully once that time passes, they will find a way to realize the still unfulfilled potential of these characters, either in the movies or on Disney+. Posted by Ross at 6:01 AM29 comments
