REJECTING THE GUILT: PREVENTION THROUGH AWARENESS “That’s what attracted me to BCUK – their professionalism, and emphasis on the scientific research approach to preventing (breast) cancer rather than offering support after a diagnosis,” comments Elspeth Mackeggie Gurney, who volunteered as a trustee and treasurer with BCUK from 2014 to 2020, and saw the charity develop and expand its message of breast cancer prevention. OXYSTEROL PROJECTThis investigates oxysterols. These are chemicals associated with the risk, recurrence and spread of breast cancer, and examines whether a dietary intervention can alter oxysterols produced by the body, reducing breast cancer recurrence.
