Build Change has stepped up to the challenge of helping Nepal rebuild, often working in difficult- to- access rural communities. In 2018, Build Change finished a 29-month-long rebuilding project with the American Red Cross, which directly involved more than 2,800homeowners.
RESILIENT HOUSING IN THE PHILIPPINES, IN THE ERA OF COVID The World Bank estimates that three billion people will live in substandard housing by 2030. In the Philippines alone, 70 million people live in substandard housing, and this is projected to grow to 113 million people by 2030. Housing indicators are sliding backwards; rapid urbanization is driving precarious construction in oftentimes HAITI | BUILD CHANGE One of the reasons why so many houses collapsed in Haiti was the poor quality of construction materials. To overcome this problem, Build Change has begun working with small and medium-sized block makers to teach them how to produce higher-quality blocks, and help create demand for those blocks. INDONESIA | BUILD CHANGE Build Change provided design assistance, construction supervision, and training for builders, homeowners and technical high school students in West Sumatra, Bengkulu, and West Java, Indonesia. The USAID Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance supported this program in distributing educational materials through flyers and radio to over18,256

Therefore Build Change’s strategy is to capacitate the Nepalese Government, INGOs, local NGOs, and other organizations to become facilitators of safe construction practices and implementers of safe reconstruction at scale. In the Philippines alone, 70 million people live in substandard housing, and this is projected to grow to 113 million people by 2030. Housing indicators are sliding backwards; rapid urbanization is driving precarious construction in oftentimes HAITI | BUILD CHANGE One of the reasons why so many houses collapsed in Haiti was the poor quality of construction materials. To overcome this problem, Build Change has begun working with small and medium-sized block makers to teach them how to produce higher-quality blocks, and help create demand for those blocks. NEPAL | BUILD CHANGE Following the earthquakes in April and May 2015, the Government of Nepal mandated that housing reconstruction be homeowner-driven. Therefore Build Change’s strategy is to capacitate the Nepalese Government, INGOs, local NGOs, and other organizations to become facilitators of safe construction practices and implementers of safe reconstruction at scale. INDONESIA | BUILD CHANGE Build Change provided design assistance, construction supervision, and training for builders, homeowners and technical high school students in West Sumatra, Bengkulu, and West Java, Indonesia. The USAID Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance supported this program in distributing educational materials through flyers and radio to over18,256
