One of the things I was taught was to follow drafting standards, BS308 at the time. Later, I was expected to follow AS1100. One of the things I was taught was to always use capital letters in text on drawingsBRICSCAD V19
The BricsCAD V19 release has not only given us a new software release (an excellent one – and I’ll be writing about that later), it’s also given us a new Bricsys website and a new pricing structure. Yes, programs get bigger over time as new functionality is added and old THE GREAT AUTODESK COLLECTIONS RIP-OFF Onwards and upwards. Collections, you may remember, are groups of applications sold together. They’re just like Suites used to be, only bigger and rental-only. They’re expensive, but they contain a lot of products. For example, the AEC Collection rents at $2,690 PA (single-user US price). IS AUTOCAD STABILITY GETTING BETTER OR WORSE? The term “stability” is sometimes used as a euphemism to refer to how many bugs a program has. I don’t use the word in that way. To me, stability is a measure of a program’s basic ability to keep functioning without crashing or corrupting data. A program can have a thousand tiny irritating bugs and still be very stable. Another program might have only one bug, but if that causes it to AUTODESK LICENSE COSTS OPTIONS 1 & 2 5 year cost $3951 (average $790) 10 year cost $13665 (average $1366) There’s always the possibility that Autodesk could get really nasty and bump up maintenance costs even more, say 30% a year from 2020. ADDING EXPRESS TOOLS TO BRICSCAD If you’re evaluating BricsCAD to replace AutoCAD, you might be put off by the apparent absence of the Express Tools. Don’t be. First, some express tool commands have been added to BricsCAD as native commands, such as OVERKILL and TXTEXP. Next, the Express Tools menu can be added, thanks to a free add-on by Martin Drese (CADwiesel). To fix this, enter QTEXT at the command prompt, set it to OFF, and if the problem doesn’t go away by itself then issue the REGENALL command. Pedantic note: the commandAUTOCAD 2017

ARE YOUR DRAWINGS SHOUTING? This post was inspired by a question raised by Jamie Myers in the CAD Managers Unite! Facebook group. Long ago, before CAD was in common use, I was taught technical drawing at school. One of the things I was taught was to follow drafting standards, BS308 at the time. Later, I was expected to follow AS1100. One of the things I was taught was to always use capital letters in text on drawings DOSLIB GOES OPEN SOURCE DOSLib is a free library of LISP functions that adds a lot of functionality to AutoLISP/Visual LISP/BricsCAD LISP. It makes a lot of programming tasks a lot easier, because instead of writing a bunch of code to do tricky stuff, you can just load the library and call a ready-made (dos_xxx) function. There are hundreds of functions thatcover the

The third in the BricsCAD Unplugged series of weekly webcasts, this one promotes the Bricsys 2018 conference which will be held on 23 and 24 October in London. These live broadcasts run on the Bricsys Facebook page and are then quickly transferred to YouTube. HEXAGON ACQUIRING BRICSYS As reported earlier, Swedish Hexagon AB has acquired Bricsys. It goes without saying that this was the big talking point among everyone at Bricsys 2018. Surprise! This announcement was a big surprise to almost everyone at the conference. Hexagon has been working very closely with Bricsys for nearly two years, so if someone was going to buy Bricsys then Hexagon would have been my first AUTODESK PERPETUAL LICENSE OWNERS TO GET SCREWED BIG-TIME Hidden in amongst a bunch of the usual highly dubious subscription statements from Carl Bass is an announcement that spells doom for Autodesk perpetual license owners. ABOUT
blog nauseam is the blog of Steve Johnson, owner of cad nauseam . Steve Johnson has been an AutoCAD specialist since 1985. He originally became well known around the world for his infamously large AutoCAD Release 13 Bug List, which he maintained as part of his duties as the Bug Threadmaster of the long-defunct CompuServe ACAD forum. Steve is also a past President of the Western Australian AutoCAD User Group (WAAUG). As a former committee member on the Applications Programming Special Interest Group of the North American Autodesk User Group (NAAUG APPROG SIG), he also contributed to the NAAUG Newsletter. NAAUG has long since been renamed as Autodesk User Group International (AUGI . Steve was part of the AUGI Benchmark Committee, which assisted in the development by Mark Middlebrook of the AUGI Gauge, a comprehensive AutoCAD benchmark. Steve was also a Vice President of CADLock, Inc. and a contributing editor for Cadalyst magazine , writing the Bug Watchcolumn from 1995.
Steve holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Information Science) degree. He has developed many hundreds of LISP routines and other AutoCAD customization files in his career and prides himself on producing high quality, low maintenance software. Steve lives in Perth, the capital city of the state of Western Australia. He enjoys drinking wine, eating Japanese food and driving very fast around corners (not simultaneously). He once played cricket very badly (this is a game like baseball except all the rules are entirely different) and was a keen fencer in his youth. He took a 23-year break from the sport before returning in 2008. His successes at this sport include: 21 Western Australian Veteran Championships 2011 Australian Veteran Sabre Champion 2016 Australian Veteran Foil Champion (50+) 2016 Australian Veteran Sabre Champion (50+) 2016 Asian Masters and Oceania Sabre Champion (50+) 2016 Commonwealth Veteran Sabre Champion (50+) He speaks enough French to be able to ask for a room with a shower, and enough Japanese to ask you what time the party will start. His other interests include listening to classical and hideously unfashionable progressive rock and metal music, emu wrestling, collecting mushrooms, moderate consumption of Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Teppan-Yaki, delicately balancing throttle and steering at the limit of adhesion, and writing about himself in the third person.__
CLASSICARRAY
ClassicArray provides an enhanced dialog box interface for AutoCAD’s Array command. Provides many features not present in AutoCAD’s ARRAYCLASSIC command.FEATURES
ClassicArray is a simple-to use but powerful tool for creating arraysin AutoCAD.
* Provides a dialog box interface to AutoCAD’s Array command. The familiar interface method provides continuity with earlier releases; use of the Ribbon is not required. * Supports Rectangular, Polar and Path array types. * Supports the creation of both associative and traditional non-associative arrays. * Provides an in-dialog preview panel to give you a quick idea of what your array will look like before any objects are created. * Allows creation of a preview array which can be accepted, rejected or modified before the desired array is finally chosen. * Base objects can be incorporated into the array or left intact as desired using a simple toggle. * Allows simple creation of 3D arrays. * Comprehensive Help is available from within the dialog box. * Provides Ribbon tabs and toolbars, separated into associative and non-associative sections. * Supports AutoCAD 2012 and later (updated for and tested withAutoCAD 2017).
* Digitally signed for compatibility with security features of recent AutoCAD releases. * Setup routines are provided that support either AutoCAD 2012/2013 only or all releases from AutoCAD 2013 onwards. Uninstallation is via the standard Windows Control Panel methods (Uninstall a Program, Add/Remove Programs). * Uses AutoCAD’s Plug-in feature to provide application behavior consistent with other add-ins. * Acts as a workaround for various AutoCAD Array bugs andlimitations.
* Supports AutoCAD for Windows and vertical products derived from it. Sorry, due to Autodesk API restrictions ClassicArray can support neither AutoCAD LT nor AutoCAD for Mac. See the ClassicArray Help page if you want to see a full description of the product, includingscreenshots.
