OS 6" map (1926) Affleck Castle is a fine example of a late 15th century tower-house on the L-plan. It contains four storeys and a garret; the walls are of coursed rubble. The ashlar corbelled parapet and angle turrets are of 16th c date, as are the crow-stepped gablesand chimney stacks.
LISMORE, CASTLE COEFFIN The remains of Castle Coeffin, which comprise an oblong hall-house and an irregularly shaped bailey, stand on the summit of a small, rocky promontary on the NW coast of Lismore. All the buildings are ruinous and there are no closely datable features, but on typological grounds, the hall may be ascribed to the 13th century.RUSKO CASTLE
NX56SE 5 58420 60419. (NX 5842 6042) Rusko Castle (NR). Rusco Castle, or Rusko Castle, now semi-ruinous, probably dates from the early 16th century. The castle is a free-standing, rubble-built oblong tower, measuring 33 1/2' by 27 1/2'. It was originally built probably towards the end of the 15th century, but considerably altered two centuries later. The castle is surrounded by a 17th century park wall, in which are two Renaissance gateways. RCAHMS 1933. LUING, ACHAFOLLA MILL Milling machinery in place to NE comprising timber-framed support with 2 pairs of stones (50in diameter), various cogs and wheels. Remains of metal roof supports in later addition. Orrin power station receives water via tunnel and pipe from Orrin dam some 5KM to the South East. The station houses a single 18MW turbine. It is located on a steeply sloping site, the turbine hall oversails the tailrace and is built into the hillside with a single storey section to the rear adjacent to a large transformer station connecting the station to the grid. this is a good example of aDUNROD CASTLE
Dunrod Castle, formerly a property of the Lindsays, stood a little S of the lands of Flatterton. Its stones were used for wall-building, so that all that remained in 1856 was a slightly raised, grassy mound covering the foundations. The site was pointed out by Mr Cairns, tenant, Dunrod Farm. The site occupies an eminence over looking KipWater.
