A Comprehensive Introduction to Landscape Photography is your go-to eBook for an in-depth introduction to Landscape Photography. Whether you’ve just bought your first camera, have been using one for a couple years or you haven’t yet purchased your first, this eBook is a natural place to begin. Learn more. THE ORTON EFFECT EXPLAINED HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH STARS: CAMERA SETTINGS AND TECHNIQUES Photographing stars and the night sky is completely different than photographing during regular daylight or even the Golden Hour. Most of the techniques and guidelines you’ve learned to follow for “standard” landscape photography don’t apply for nighttime photography, which makes it a hard genre to enter when you’re new to photography – even more experienced daytime photographers MY TOP 3 FILTERS FOR SEASCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY The Medium Graduated ND Filter. My third and final favorite filter for seascape photography is the NiSi Medium Graduated ND Filter. While the previous filters have been brand independent (meaning it won’t make a big difference which brand you choose), this is a more specific filter. I’ve had the Medium Graduated ND Filter for a while now INTRODUCTION TO GRADUATED ND FILTERS A Graduated ND Filter is a dark glass or resin placed in front of your lens. Just like a normal ND Filter it allows less light to enter the camera. What differentiates these two filters is that the GND is only partly darkened. That means that the filter only darkens parts of the image while the remaining half is left alone. A COMPREHENSIVE INTRODUCTION TO BLACK AND WHITE Black & White = A deliberate creative choice. Typically, the most compelling black and white photographs result from making a deliberate creative choice to create a black and white photograph. This process often starts in the field. The sooner you see black and white photography as an equal to color photography, the better. THE BEST APERTURE FOR LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY The sharpest aperture of your lens, known as the sweet spot, is located two to three f/stops from the widest aperture. Therefore, the sharpest aperture on my 16-35mm f/4 is between f/8 and f/11. A faster lens, such as the 14-24mm f/2.8, has a sweet spot between f/5.6 and f/8. HOW TO USE THE COLOR GRADING TOOL IN LIGHTROOM The Color Grading tool in Lightroom replaces the Split Toning Tool that many are familiar with. But is it any better? The truth is that it doesn't take that much to take make your images more impactful (and the process more enjoyable!) INTRODUCTION TO GRADUATED ND FILTERS A Graduated ND Filter is a dark glass or resin placed in front of your lens. Just like a normal ND Filter it allows less light to enter the camera. What differentiates these two filters is that the GND is only partly darkened. That means that the filter only darkens parts of the image while the remaining half is left alone. Tips for using a 6-Stop Neutral Density Filter WHY YOU SHOULD USE A POLARIZER FOR LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY Let’s take a closer look at why you should use a circular polarizer for landscape photography: What are polarizing filters? Simply put, a polarizing filter is a filter that’s placed in front of the lens in order to reduce reflected light reaching the camera’s sensor. 5 HUBS YOU SHOULD FOLLOW ON INSTAGRAM Founded in 2012 by a group of well known Instagrammers, World_Shotz is one of the oldest hubs on Instagram. HOW TO USE THE COLOR GRADING TOOL IN LIGHTROOM The Color Grading tool in Lightroom replaces the Split Toning Tool that many are familiar with. But is it any better? Is there a point in learning and implementing it into your workflow? While that depends on your post-processing ambitions there's no getting around the fact that this is the best new tool that's been added to Lightroom for a longtime.
HOW TO USE COLOR LABELS IN LIGHTROOM Keeping a structured file system on your hard drive is important but keeping images organized within Lightroom is just as important.
