THE CASTRO THEATRE IN THE NEWS The series begins, appropriately, with “The Godfather” at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, and runs through May 17. The centerpiece of the series is a new restoration of one of Coppola’s favorite of his films, “The Conversation,” the 1974 surveillance thriller filmed in San Francisco starring Gene Hackman, Robert Duvall, Cindy Williamsand a
RENTING THE CASTRO THEATRE The Castro Theatre is a single-screen movie palace, with over 1,400 seats (approx 800 downstairs and 600 in the balcony). There is a mezzanine available as well -- an ideal setting for VIP receptions and special gatherings. The mezzanine can accommodate 200 people. THE HISTORY OF THE CASTRO THEATRE The Castro Theatre was built in 1922 by pioneer San Francisco theatre entrepreneurs, the Nasser brothers, who started with a nickelodeon in 1908 in the Castro neighborhood. The Castro was built at a cost of $300,000. The Castro's designer was Timothy L. Pflueger (1894-1946) who went on to become a famous Bay Area architect. MONTHLY SCHEDULE OF THE CASTRO THEATRE At the Castro Theatre, all of our regularly scheduled films, sing-alongs and special events will go on as planned. We will comply with City and State directives and thus we will limit the capacity in the auditorium to not greater than 250 persons at any time. Our large seating capacity allows for ample social distance to be available atall our
