Our non-profit uses community organizing, advocacy, and legal aid to press for measures that help homeless people get back ontheir feet.

ILLINOIS EVICTION MORATORIUM EXTENDED FOR SELECT By Samuel Carlson, Manager of Research and Outreach As of November 14, Illinois landlords can begin filing eviction cases unless tenants provide a written statement that they should be protected by the COVID-19 eviction moratorium. Since March 2020, Gov. Pritzker has put a moratorium (or freeze) on most eviction case filings in Illinois. Since March 2020, Gov. Pritzker has put a moratorium (or freeze) on most eviction case filings in Illinois. This report, for the first time, combines deduplicated data from the Chicago Homeless Services System and the Chicago Public FEES FUNDING RENTAL HOUSING SUPPORT PROGRAM ARE SAVED BY The Illinois Rental Housing Support Program was created in 2005 when CCH’s statewide housing campaign passed legislation creating a $10 charge on real estate recordings. Homelessness is caused by many factors that include inadequate stock of affordable housing, too few living wage jobs, and too few resources for those trying to restore their lives after incarceration or unemployment. Our non-profit uses community organizing, advocacy, and legal aid to press for measures that help homeless people get back ontheir feet.
FUNDING - CHICAGO COALITION FOR THE HOMELESS To preserve our independent voice, CCH does not accept government funding. Instead, CCH is sustained by diversified support from foundations, corporations, and individual donors that share our commitment to prevent and end homelessness. Under the direction of Patricia Nix-Hodes, six attorneys offer free legal services to more than 500 clients a year. During FY20, the Law Project closed 761 cases. Homeless students or unaccompanied youth comprised 72% of our caseload. CCH attorneys also assist homeless adults living in shelters and on the street, including encampments. Check out our resource guide for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness during the COVID-19 crisis. It includes helpful resources for if you are having trouble paying rent, are experiencing a significant change in your income, need to access a food pantry or prepared meals, and more. 2020 COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED The application deadline has been extended for those applying to receive a $2,500 renewable college scholarship from the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless. The new application deadline is Monday, April 27. Scholarships are awarded to students who succeeded in school despite coping personally with homelessness. NEW DATE: CCH TO MARK 40 YEARS OF ADVOCACY AT SEPTEMBER CELEBRATION Delayed due to COVID-19 precautionary measures, Chicago Coalition for the Homeless will mark 40 years of organizing and advocating at an evening celebration on Friday, September 25. “No Place Like Home: Celebrating 40 Years of Advocacy” will be hosted at Zhou B.
