NEW CLAAS PRODUCT CONFIGURATOR FEATURES A MODERN DESIGN AND ENHANCEDFUNCTIONS
With a fresh look, intuitive operation and many new functions and features, the new CLAAS Product Configurator goes online in Germany on 4 May. It will also be available in Austria and Poland a few dayslater.
Read on
“Our customers' operating conditions are as diverse as they are themselves – and hence the requirements that our products need to fulfil. CLAAS is laying the foundation to meet these requirements by launching a bespoke application that enables our customers to configure CLAAS machines individually”, explains Christiane Westerkofort, Manager Sales & Training. DIGITISED CONFIGURATION, INCLUDING ORDER ACCEPTANCE In addition to improved usability, the new configurator also facilitates the secure handling of incoming orders and quotation processes. This ensures a fully digital workflow – from configurating the machine by the customer to preparing the quotation by the dealer through to accepting the order at the production site. The only step that will still take place “face to face” is the purchase itself – via an on-site dealer who uses Machine Online to order the machinery. The user-friendly configurator sifts through endless possible combinations to generate precisely the right CLAAS machine for every customer. Product groups can be freely configured, predefined solutions can be selected or machines can be individually customised and completed according to requirements. What’s more, it fulfils the technical requirements to present marketing content, such as highlights of the machine, at the model series or optional level; the search function was also optimised and an interface to the Product Information Management System (PIM) implemented as well. DEVICE-OPTIMISED WITH MEMORY AND SENDING FUNCTION The new configurator was also optimised for mobile devices and can therefore be accessed on the fly. Additionally, product families can be filtered according to parameters that make the search process more intuitive and transparent. To improve clarity, the technical data for every model range is displayed directly so that customers have a neat overview of the different models each one contains. Configured machines can be saved in CLAAS Connect and even processed later on using configuration or QR code. New users will have to register on CLAAS Connect. The saved configuration can then be accessed and modified at any time and a quotation can be requested from the salespartner.
Development began by collecting plenty of customer feedback. The configurator is therefore perfectly designed to suit their requirements. More than 4,000 CLAAS dealers and factory agents in around 130 markets already use the current configurator. “Our aim is to ensure efficient communication to accommodate our customers precisely where they need us. As part of this process, we base the approach on how our customers use media, an area that is currently experiencing significant change,” Christiane Westerkofort continues. The configurator will be available in Germany, Austria and Poland from the beginning of May on CLAAS.COM . You can download the text here. You can download photos here. HELMUT CLAAS BECOMES HONORARY CHAIRMAN OF THE SHAREHOLDERS' COMMITTEE The CLAAS Shareholders' Committee has named Helmut Claas as Honorary Chairman. Cathrina Claas-Mühlhäuser was chosen as the new Chairwoman and takes over the role from her father.Read on
Helmut Claas held the position of Chairman of the Shareholders' Committee for 25 years. During this time, CLAAS intensified its international presence in countries beyond Europe. New production and sales locations were opened in India, the USA, Russia, China, South America and elsewhere. An important strategic milestone was reached in 2003 with the acquisition of the French tractor manufacturer RenaultAgriculture.
This period also coincided with the development of the flagship LEXION combine harvester, which was introduced to the market in 1995. This is still considered the most advanced and capable combine harvester worldwide and was relaunched in 2019 as a completely revamped machine. The JAGUAR, a self-propelled forage harvester, became yet another success story, and CLAAS rose to the position of market leader in thissegment.
The transition to the third generation is now complete with the election of Cathrina Claas-Mühlhäuser as Chairwoman of the Shareholders' Committee. The Committee sets the strategic direction of the family business and works closely with the Group Executive Board. It consists of the external members Christian Boehringer, Dr Frank Dreves, Arne Lakeit, Gerd Peskes, Carl-Albrecht Bartmer and the family members Cathrina Claas-Mühlhäuser, Dr Patrick Claas, Volker Claasand Helmut Claas.

CLAAS RESTARTS SERIES PRODUCTION OF HARVESTING TECHNOLOGY AND TRACTORS CLAAS will restart series production of harvesting technology and tractors at the sites in Harsewinkel (Germany), Le Mans (France) and Törökszentmiklós (Hungary) this coming Monday.Read on
Le Mans
Baler production in Metz (France) is also scheduled to resume step by step a few days later. This brings an intensive preparatory phase to a close, which involved an analysis of health protection and the definition of necessary preventive measures. During the planning phase, the purchasing departments contacted all necessary national and international suppliers to ensure a smooth relaunch. Warehouse stocks were also increased on short notice. “In this time, our thoughts are mainly with those staff members and countries that were, and still are, particularly affected by the pandemic. We are therefore delighted to send out a ray of hope by relaunching series production at our four major production sites", explains Thomas Böck, CLAAS CEO.Metz
The continued spread of the corona virus and ever greater restrictions along the supply chain had led to an interruption in production at the four sites for several weeks in mid-March. In spite of this, deliveries of machines that had already been built continued at a highlevel.
The international situation remains varied, however. Production at the Gaomi (China) site has largely been back to normal for a few weeks now, while the sites in Omaha (USA), Krasnodar (Russia) as well as Paderborn, Dissen and Bad Saulgau (all in Germany) have only been affected by the pandemic on a temporary basis or in some cases not at all. The situation is different in Chandigarh (India), where political decisions have put production on hold.Törökszentmiklós

FARMING BY SATELLITE LAUNCHES IDEAS COMPETITION – SPONSORED BY CLAAS Mid-March saw the start of this year's FARMING BY SATELLITE competition which is once again being supported by CLAAS as a sponsor.Read on
An initiative of the European GNSS Agency (GSA) and the European Environment Agency (EEA), FARMING BY SATELLITE is aimed at young farmers as well as trainees and students, principally in the fields of IT, mechanical engineering and agricultural sciences. The competition promotes the continuous development of the use of GNSS and Earth observation systems in European and African agriculture. Its objective is to support sustainable farming practices, improve efficiency and resource usage and so reduce the impact on the environment. Use of satellite data is essential in order to prepare the agricultural sector to adjust to global challenges, such as the growing world population and the consequences of climate change. The FARMING BY SATELLITE competition encourages young professionals, farmers and students in Europe to create new, sustainable and environmentally compatible solutions using the Copernicus Earth observation system as well as the EGNOS and Galileo satellite-based positioning systems. The 2020 edition of the competition includes a Special Africa Prize for solutions which cater for the specific needs and resources of the continent's communities and states with a view to improving their degree of self-sufficiency and bringing sustainable modernisation to African agriculture. _"Who would have thought that Galileo and Copernicus would be able to convince young farmers to become tech-savvy entrepreneurs applying innovations derived from space data to improve the quality of life? We need young farmers who are innovative in order to develop competitive and yet sustainable agriculture. It is only natural that they should make use of the opportunities presented by space technologies and our objective with this competition is to support them in achieving the best possible solution,_" declared Pascal Claudel, Acting Executive Director of the GSA. Applicants can take part as individuals or as a team and register online from 16 MARCH until 15 JUNE 2020, with the top teams selected as finalists for the last round. A total prize purse of 10,000 euros will be distributed between the top four participants. The 2020 edition of FARMING BY SATELLITE is sponsored by agricultural engineering equipment manufacturer CLAAS. Full details of the competition are available at www.farmingbysatellite.eu.

CLAAS BAD SAULGAU CONTINUES PRODUCTION WITHOUT INTERRUPTION – UNITSALES ON SCHEDULE
Production at the Bad Saulgau site continues to run according to plan, despite an initial two-week shutdown of series production at the CLAAS site in Harsewinkel due to production stoppages at suppliers.Read on
“We are continuing to supply our dealers and customers green forage harvesting machinery as reliably as ever”, explains Patrick Boos, Managing Director of Production CLAAS Saulgau GmbH. “This means we can guarantee supply security for the upcoming 1st cut and beyond. A mid three-figure number of mower units, swathers, tedders and loader wagons are due to be manufactured before the change to front attachment production at the end of April. Given that we have taken security precautions and have a comprehensive stock of parts, we are very confident of achieving the planned target at this point in time. The safeguarding of our employees is, of course, our top priority.” A mid three-figure number of green forage harvesting machines are due to be manufactured by the end of April, with more than 100 machines being continuously loaded and shipped every day. Ulrich Nickol, Head of the Forage Harvesting Division at CLAAS since 1st April and also Managing Director at CLAAS Saulgau GmbH as well as CLAAS Material Handling GmbH, adds: “As one of the few agricultural machinery factories to remain in production in Europe, we are fortunately in a position to continue production at a normal level and without production stoppages. While the situation has deteriorated slightly for some suppliers, we are generally well covered with supplier parts for the green forage harvesting segment. Only in the production of swathers was the assembly of some units delayed. However, the relevant supplier is already restarting production, meaning that the production of the postponed units can be resumed quickly. Furthermore, enough swathers have already been produced to cover the current demand over the medium term, ensuring that there will be no supply shortfall.” Bad Saulgau is a production facility for CLAAS mower units, tedders, swathers as well as loader wagons and forage transport wagons. In addition, it also manufactures front attachments plus the intake and chopper units for the JAGUAR range. All necessary safety precautions have been taken to prevent employees from being infected with the COVID-19 virus during working hours. You can download the text here. You can download photos here.
