Apart from a few hundred Transporters, there were no Volkswagens sold in Australia at all between 1981 and 1990. The story of how VW died in Australia, and how they were resurrected and slowly reestablished in the 1990s and 2000s, is here too. Passat sedans had a model prefix of ‘32’, while Variants (station wagons) used ‘33’. The chassis numbers below cover the range for both. The Passat was assembled in Australia from1974-76

To successfully mount a tin cooler to these crankcases, remove the 8mm stud and replace it with a stepped 6/8mm stud (the one used to repair stripped oil strainer plate studs). You then have to sleeve-down the other two 8mm holes and you can use and old 1600 pushrod for the job.CLUBVW.ORG.AU

The introductory issue is dated ‘Autumn 1965’, and a second issue is dated ‘No 2 1965’. The German-made 1500S sedan is imported, a deluxe, high compression twin-carb model that is only £40 more than the normal Australian 1500 sedan. After two months, it is replaced by an Australian-made version - the VW 1500 'Twin S'. The German-made 1500S sedan is imported, a deluxe, high compression twin-carb model that is only £40 more than the normal Australian 1500 sedan. The introduction of the ‘Everyman’s Porsche’, as some have dubbed the Karmann Ghia, was the culmination of a calendar of faultless timing. ENGINES - GENERAL - CLUB VEEDUB The choice for the basic power unit was the EA 111 FSI engine series as used in the Golf in power levels of 66 kW (1.4-litre) and 85 kW (1.6-litre). The 1.4-litre engine is a four-valve four-cylinder engine with a swept volume of 1390cc and a bore/stroke of 76.5 by 75.6millimetres.
