LAWRENCE-OUTAOUAIS CHAPTER / SECTION Over the last 30 years COG Ottawa, and now COG Ottawa – St. Lawrence – Outaouais (or COG OSO for short), has been delivering programs and services for farmers, gardeners, educators, and people who care about healthy food and healthy environments. We continue to develop these resources and invite everyone to benefit!SHARING THE LOAD
As challenging as raising food has been for me, dealing with human beings on my farm has been more challenging. Vegetables don’t talk back. I could write a book about the interesting characters who have spent time on my farm: dear tiny Fong with a PhD in microbiology and an unending willingness to work; handsome, scheming Chrystain who managed to impregnate two women on the farm andGROUND CHERRIES
Ever since I ran a vegetable CSA in the ’90s, I’ve been interested in unusual garden plants. I look for crops that are well adapted to our northern climate, produce heavily, are easy to grow and taste wonderful. I discovered several plants that add flair and discovery to our CSA boxes. These include kohl- Rabi, mizuna, Blackstrap and Red Russian kale, pattypan squash, Rat-tail radishWWW.COG.CA

THERE ARE APPS FOR EVERYTHING . . . BUT DO THEY REALLY In 2008 Patricia Bishop of Taproot Farm in Nova Scotia needed some technological support for her Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) program. But there weren’t a lot of products for farmers looking for CSA management software. “The costs were really high and there weren’t a lot of options. And none of them did everything I wanted them to do.” So Bishop decided to create her own software THE CANADIAN ORGANIC STANDARDS AND REGULATIONS The Canadian organic sector is regulated by the Organic Products Regulations (OPR).
