HOW TO BECOME A FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR In the civilian self-defense world, there are two basic paths to becoming a firearms instructor. 1 Both paths have something to recommend them, and both have some pitfalls or shortcomings to watch out for. The two traditional routes to becoming a defensive firearms instructor for regular people are: Certification, and. Apprenticeship.CLEAR A DOUBLEFEED
Clear a Doublefeed | Cornered Cat. A double feed happens when two rounds try to enter the chamber of a semi-automatic at the same time. I disagree with this conventional wisdom. To my way of thinking, the best gun for home defense is (drumroll please) the gun you can get to quickly and use efficiently. IS YOUR CHILD READY FOR THE RANGE? Few of them enjoy wearing muffs, and plugs are generally designed for adult-sized ear canals. Nevertheless, your child should be fitted with both plugs and muffs on every trip to the range for the foreseeable future. Her hearing is sharper than yours, and very vulnerable to damage. 2. I’ve handled concealed carry purses from established names like Galco and Coronado, from less well-known but equally experienced mid-sized makers such as The Concealment Shop and Gun Tote’n Mamas, and from tiny little startup companies.Women interested in purse carry will find lot more choices than were available just a few short AIMING FOR LOWER LEAD EXPOSURE The author of this article works in the health and safety field, and is an avid shooter. If you carry in a purse, whether the purse is designed for gun carry or not, you must use a dedicated compartment which contains the gun, the gun only, and only the gun. If there’s other stuff in the same compartment, you could end up with a lipstick tube levering the trigger back and firing an unintentional shot when you sling the purse over your shoulder. WHY ISN’T A REVOLVER A SEMI-AUTOMATIC? Why isn’t a revolver a semi-automatic? February 16, 2013. Both revolvers and semi-automatic firearms fire only one shot each time the trigger is pressed. Neither type is a “ machine gun ,” and neither allows the shooter to fire more than one shot with each press of the trigger. Pepper spray has been on the civilian market since the early 1990’s, and is currently in use by thousands of police departments across the United States. Some folks say the most dangerous place in the world is between a Mama Bear and her cubs. It may be so. I’ve never met a Mama Bear, myself. The most dangerous place I ever stood was between a cornered cat andan open door.
When a cat feels threatened, she gets away from the danger as quickly as she can. She doesn’t care what damage she inflicts on her way to safety, but she’s not interested in fighting for fighting’s sake. She does only as much as she needs to do in order to escape. She doesn’t deal in revenge. If she feels threatened, she simply leaves.Efficiently.
Until she needs to use them, her claws stay sheathed. She doesn’t go around threatening to maul people. She’s cuddly, she’s cozy, she likes to curl up next to a crackling fire on a cold winter’s day. She’s great company. But don’t try to trap her in a bad situation. This site is about women and guns, not about cats. But in a way, it’s about the cornered cat in all of us. It’s about the determination to get away from an attacker if you need to. It’s about making the decision to say, _“Not me. Not mine. Not today.”_ And it’s about the tools to make that decision stick. My name is Kathy Jackson . I’m a firearms instructor, a homeschool mom, a small business owner, a former magazine editor, a freelance writer, and the author of thiswebsite.
If you have never been to my site before you should dive right in and start reading. There are currently over 120 chapters in my ever growing Table of Contents. I cover topics ranging from basic firearm safety to legal issues surrounding self-defense to raising children around guns to the moral implications of deadly force and much, much more. My goal in producing all this material is to educate and inspire people to take personal responsibility for their own lives and theirown safety.
