Selective School-Based Violence Prevention Programs PRACTICE SUMMARY: This practice consists of programs designed to prevent or reduce aggressive or violent behavior in K–12 students who are considered at risk of or who have demonstrated such antisocial behaviors. The practice is rated Effective for reducing aggression in students who participated in school-based violence prevention programs, compared with students who did not participate. Alcohol Interventions for College Students PRACTICE SUMMARY: This practice consists of interventions designed to reduce alcohol consumption in college students. Interventions can be delivered face to face or virtually and target different drinking-related behaviors, such as heavy drinking and alcohol expectancies. The practice is rated Promising for reducing alcohol consumption and reducing positive alcohol expectancies of collegestudents.
Psychosocial Interventions for Cannabis Use Disorder PRACTICE SUMMARY: This practice involves the use of psychosocial interventions to treat cannabis use disorder. Psychosocial treatments may include many forms of therapy, such as cognitive–behavioral therapy, contingency management, and relapse prevention. The practice is rated Effective for reducing the use of cannabis and the symptoms of dependence, and increasing the prevalence of abstinence. The Bronx Defenders Holistic Defense Model (New York) PROGRAM SUMMARY: This is a program that uses an interdisciplinary team to address factors contributing to clients’ contact with the court. The program is rated No Effects. Although participants showed a statistically significant lower likelihood of receiving jail time and were sentenced to fewer days in jail, there were no statistically significant effects on overall conviction rate and likelihood of future arrest. The preponderance of evidence suggests the program did not have the intended effects. Mystery Shop Programs to Reduce Underage Alcohol Sales PROGRAM SUMMARY: This intervention seeks to increase staff ID checks for the sale of alcoholic beverages at licensed establishments, to help prevent sales to minors. The program is rated Effective. The results were mixed. One study found there was a statistically significant increase in age verification rates resulting from the intervention, whereas a second study found no statistically significant increases in ID-checking rates. Overall, the results suggest the intervention influenced ID-checking rates. Reducing Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Limits for Motor Vehicle Operations (New Jersey) PROGRAM SUMMARY: This program comprises legislation that was passed to reduce alcohol-related crash fatalities by lowering the blood alcohol concentration limit for adult drivers from 0.10 to 0.08. The program is rated No Effects. There was a statistically significant reduction in passenger fatalities per crash after the implementation of the legislation; however, there were no statistically significant impacts on driver fatalities per crash or total fatalities per crash. Prev@cib Program (Spain) PROGRAM SUMMARY: This is an anti-bullying program for adolescents in Spain, which is designed to decrease bullying and cyberbullying perpetration and victimization both in the classroom and virtual environments. The program is rated Promising. There was a statistically significant decrease in bullying and victimization and cyberbullying and cybervictimization for the treatment group, compared with the control group. The Substance Use Prevention Promoted by Eating Family Meals Regularly(SUPPER) Project
PROGRAM SUMMARY: This program seeks to help parents become facilitators in preventing children’s substance misuse, by encouraging them to have five or more family meals together weekly. The program is rated Promising. Intervention group parents showed a statistically significant increase in talking with children about alcohol, compared with control group parents, but there were no statistically significant differences in number of family meals per week and talking with children about marijuana and other drugs. Text Message Reminder Nudge for Defendants (Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, United Kingdom) PROGRAM SUMMARY: This is a text-messaging program designed to remind defendants about upcoming court dates. The program is rated No Effects. There were no statistically significant differences between treatment and control group defendants in attendance at their first scheduled court hearing and in the number of failure-to-appearwarrants issued.
Children’s Advocacy Center Model PROGRAM SUMMARY: This program is a multidisciplinary, victim-focused approach designed to improve forensic interviewing and the continuity of care for youth who are victims of sexual abuse and assault. The program is rated Effective. The program showed a statistically significant increase in the receipt of physical health examinations and counseling referrals for treatment group youth, compared with youth in the community comparison group.Top
