TOO MANY SCHOOLS LEAVE LEARNING TO CHANCE DURING THE We knew the sudden shift to remote learning would be hard. For the last two months CRPE followed a group of large, mostly urban school systems as they clarified their expectations for teaching students, tracking attendance, and monitoring learning. These districts are prominent in the national debate and serve nearly one of every six public school students in the country. STUDENTS COUNT: HIGHLIGHTS FROM COVID-19 STUDENT SURVEYS Students have rarely been asked their views on education in the time of COVID-19, especially compared to teachers and parents. We looked at 76 surveys of views on education during the pandemic, but found only 7 national student surveys at the K–12 level, and only 4 draw from representative samples (see table below). EVERY MINUTE COUNTS: INSIDE SUCCESS ACADEMY’S VIRTUAL SCHOOLS Steven Wilson | Tue, 03/31/2020 Success’s meticulously planned classes and sustained expectations for students’ work will come as a relief to many parents. RESEARCH_SPOTLIGHT_FINAL.JPG DISTRICT_DATA_MAP_2.PNG DISTRICT RESPONSES TO COVID-19 SCHOOL CLOSURES Researchers at CRPE have compiled a database, including an
interactive map, to track how districts shift instruction, student support, and organizational operations in response to the COVID-19pandemic.
More than 100,000
public schools across the country have closed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many are expected to remain closed for weeks, and in some cases, for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. States, districts, and charter school management organizations face hard and quick decisions about how to manage these closures. This project attempts to provide transparency so decision-makers can find solutions as quickly as possible. We will update this database continuously, and will keep adding districts and metrics studied.* About Us
