ABOUT THE FUND
About the Fund. The Fund was founded in 1961 as the Marian Davis Scholarship Fund, a memorial to a teacher and political activist who died of breast cancer in 1960. Marian was an advocate for racial justice and the rights of labor. While raising her family, she was also at home in the classroom, on the picket line, or in a jail cell. THE CLASS OF 2020-2021 Anne Braden Award –Mariah George. The Anne Braden Award was created to honor this long-time civil rights activist and Davis-Putter Trustee. The award recognizes an undergraduate working in the South, keeping racism central to all aspects of their movement work. This year’s recipient is Mariah “Rush” George, a radical blackwomanist from

ELIZABETH VEGA & ARTIVISTS STL Elizabeth Vega, of the Class of 2016-2017, is with Artivists StL.She made 40 solidarity shields (below) to send to the Standing Rock water protectors. The shields’ construction design was pulled from those created before the non-indictment in the Michael Brown murder in Ferguson to peacefully protect protesters from batons and pepperspray.
