In the first US solo museum exhibition for South African contemporary artist Simphiwe Ndzube, Oracles of the Pink Universe presents eight new works exploring the interplay between magical realism and history. The exhibition integrates themes related to power, conflict, and the search for freedom through a Pink Universe, an imaginative world that combines fantasy with the history of SIMPHIWE NDZUBE ACCESS GUIDE Simphiwe Ndzube (b. 1990) is a South African artist from the Eastern Cape. Ndzube, now based in Los Angeles, explores the interplay between the real and the magical. HOW TO MAKE A SEWING CARD Look closely at Marie Watt's Butterfly. This textile was started during Watt’s residency at the DAM during the summer of 2013. She was inspired by two young female powwow dancers that described how they felt when dancing in jingle dresses. Designed by Italian architect Gio Ponti and Denver-based James Sudler Associates, the Martin Building first opened in 1971. Additionally, PIWAA promotes scholarship in the field through exhibitions, annual symposia, and publications.
