DIARY OF A QUILTER
Here are my blocks so far on looking pretty on my design wall above. (For my blocks I’m using the red, white, and blue prints from my Notting Hill fabric collection paired with an assortment of Riley Blake Confetti Cottons in Cloud, Songbird, Tearose, Redwood, and Oxford Blue.). As you can see, this is the first block where I’ve used Redwood as the dominant color for the block. PRINTABLE QUILT CARE INSTRUCTIONS Reply Lisa C in Dallas November 1, 2019 at 7:17 am. Thank you for the free printable. You asked what we’re making for the holidays – I decided at the first of the year to make quilts for people I loved instead of waiting for occasions (weddings, babies, etc.) so I got out my overflowing Christmas fabric bin and made Christmas quilts for my three college friends (we graduated in 1984). MODERN BOY QUILT TUTORIAL This is a great quick for a fast assembly. This is the ‘twin size’ version (63″ x 84″). It requires at least 16 1/3 yard cuts (I used all 18 print from the collection to give a little more variety.) If you want to make it any bigger (73″ x 94″ Twin) I would suggest a 5″ border all the way around. Buy 1 FREE BLOOM SEW-ALONG FROM LORI HOLT I think I’m going to make a bunch more. The Bloom Sew a long is a free series of block tutorials by Lori using her Sew Simple Shapes as templates. You can find the free pattern here. Every week, Lori shares a tutorial on her blog, Bee In My Bonnet , to walk you through the steps of each new block in the sampler. This week she is sharing Block7.
25 BEST CHARM SQUARE QUILTS & PROJECTS These bundles of fabric come in three most common sizes. 5″ x 5″ squares – sometimes called Charm Squares or 5″ Stackers; 10 x 10″ Squares – sometimes called Layer Cakes or 10″ Stackers; and 2½”x Width of Fabric (42″) Strips – sometimes called Rolie Polie’s or Jelly Rolls. In this post I’ve put together a list ofquilts
HOW TO MAKE A MANX QUILT BLOCK Place the rows right sides together and sew using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Lay the seam flat in one direction and layer the two foundation squares over each other, turning down one edge for finishing. Whipstitch closed to finish. And there is my finished miniManx quilt.
IRISH CHAIN NINE-PATCH QUILT TUTORIAL Irish Chain Nine Patch Quilt Assembly. Layout your quilt blocks into rows of 7 alternating Nine-Patch and solid squares. Odd rows will start and end with a Nine-Patch block. Even rows will start and end with solid square. Sew rows together, pressing all seams toward the solid square (away from the Nine-Patch blocks). FAT QUARTER GIANT STAR QUILT The story of this quilt began last Christmas when I made a paper-pieced star pillow for my Grandma using a few pieces of Pat Bravo’s Indie collection for Art Gallery Studios. My sister really liked the pillow, so I decided to use the rest of my Indie pieces to make her family a quilt. I’ve always wanted to try Jeni Baker’sGiant Star

HOW TO ADD A LABEL TO A QUILT Pin the label on your quilt – I like to put it in one of the bottom corners – and using a hidden applique stitch, sew the label in place. Slide the needle through the label, the backing, and batting, avoiding going all the way through the front of the quilt. I personally would recommend sewing it to the back of a new quilt beforeit’s
MY SUMMER ENGLISH PAPER PIECING PROJECT I love having a handwork project to carry around in the summer. This summer it’s been a fun Sue Daley-inspired English Paper Piecing (EPP) project. With kids at home and family outings, I don’t get as much time at my machine, but I love having a portable project that I can work on while watching movies with my kids (my boys have been bringing me up to date on Marvel movies), going on road ECONOMY BLOCK TUTORIAL + QUILT INSPIRATION 6″ x 6″ Economy Quilt Block tutorial: Center the long edge of two of the smaller triangles on opposite sides of the center square and sew in place using a 1/4″ seam. (This is one of the very rare times I don’t recommend a scant 1/4″ because it can make your block slightly too big. Use an exact 1/4″ seam allowance.) PATRIOTIC US FLAG MINI QUILT Flag Mini Quilt Supplies: 6 ½” X 9 ½” piece of fabric for the backing of your mug rug. 2 ½” X 33” strip of fabric for binding. 6 ½” X 9 ½” piece of natural fiber batting (cotton or wool so you don’t melt the batting as you do the quilt as you go method)Scraps of
FELTED WOOL BAG TUTORIAL To make the boxed sides (also known as the gusset) of the bag, bring together the edges of the square notches in both corners, matching up and centering the bottom and side seams. Pin in place and sew using 1/2″ seam allowance. Cut along the seam to open up one of the sleeves and cut two matching bag handles. DOLLS OF HOPE CHARITY SEWING PROJECT Dolls of Hope Charity Sewing – Stuffed Bears for Children in Crisis. When my youngest son was ready to start working on an Eagle Scout project this summer, and knowing it would need to be something with skills in my wheelhouse, we talked about it, I shared some ideas, and he choose to make stuffed toy bears for the organization Dolls of Hope. (You can also find them on Facebook.) PROJECT TUTORIALS WITH SUNNYSIDE AVE + MEET THE MAKERS Today I’ve got links to some really fun tutorials including Block #4 of Meet the Makers hosted by Riley Blake and some extra cute projects made by my friend Sachiko of Tea Rose Home. All are made with my Gingham Girls and Sunnyside Avenue fabric collections. 🙂 LATTICE BABY QUILT TUTORIAL Cutting for your Lattice Baby Quilt Tutorial: From one of the 5″ x wof strips, cut 2 squares 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ . Cut each square once on the diagonal. You will have 4 corner-setting triangles. From remaining 5″ strips cut 40 pieces 1½” x 5″. Subcut 7 3/4” strip into 5 squares 7 3/4” x 7 3/4”. Cut squares twice – onceon each
SCANT 1/4" SEAM ALLOWANCE As you know, a 1/4″ seam allowance is the gold-standard in quilting. Keeping your seam allowance consistent is an important key to good-looking quilts but using a scant 1/4″ seam is even better. Let me explain. Typically lining up the edge of your fabric with the right side of your presser foot is a good guide for keeping your seamDIARY OF A QUILTER

MEET MY THREAD COLLECTION EVERYDAY BASICS FOR AURIFIL Today, the Auribuzz – the Aurifil blog – is hosting the an interview with yours truly as we’re announcing a fun new collaboration: A THREAD COLLECTION I CURATED FOR AURIFIL THREADS, EVERYDAY FAVORITES BY AMY SMART. Aurifil thread has been my go-to thread for the past 8 years. I use it in ALL of my piecing. The light weight of the 50 wt threads means there isn’t excess bulk from the thread, increasing the accuracy of my piecing. I love the strength and quality of the thread even though it is light weight. I also feel like I have much less lint in my machine as a result, In addition to the high quality, Aurifil threads are available in the most luscious colors! For my collection I definitely went with my favorite basic, primary colors but since this is the thread I use for my everyday piecing, I wanted to include a lot of light options that read neutral and therefore work with a variety of piecing projects. The darker, vibrant colors are perfect options for binding, machine applique, or other times you need to match a color to a project. In conjunction with the release of my Everyday Favorites collection, the Aurifil AURIBUZZ blog is sharing an interview with me about how I got started sewing and blogging, what’s next, and the inspiration for my collection. You can read it here.
The Everyday Favorites collection contains 12 different spools and each spool has almost 1500 yards of thread. These collections retail for $140, but I have a limited amount of collections in my shop with special pricing of $99 for my wonderful readers. This discount will be available through Black Friday weekend. UPDATE: My inventory is sold out! (holy smokes!) But I will continue to take pre-orders at this pricing through Black Friday weekend. Those orders will most likely ship the first week of December. (Thanks so much for your support!) I’m so excited to have these threads on hand for years of sewingahead!
