When the Tokyo Olympics were postponed in March 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic grew to alarming proportions, there was a feeling that putting off the opening ceremonies until July 2021 would be the answer to a dire situation. Few dreamed that there would still be major COVID problems 14 months later, let alone a question as to whether the Games should be held even in 2021. THE BASICS OF MODERN DRESSAGE GIRTHING For a short dressage girth: The length of the girth must take into account the horse’s individual anatomy. The buckle section must sit higher than the horse’s elbow level to avoid interference during movement. Even if you are using a short girth, always use the longestgirth possible.
DRESSAGE BRAIDS: BUTTON UP! There are two methods that Jennifer likes for “button” braids: a. Folding method. Fold the braid in half, pushing the end of the braid up under the base of the braid. Then fold the braid in half again. “Make sure you're pushing the braid firmly onto the crest ARE YOU READY FOR FIRST LEVEL DRESSAGE? Aug 9, 2016. It is exciting to think about moving up a level in riding competition. It is a journey requiring patience, empathy, fortitude and commitment. Before you can explore the possibility of competing at First Level you must appreciate what Training Level has taught you. To make an educated and confident decision about moving up to First AN INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE ON DRESSAGE COMPETITION The short arena in the U.S. is used only at the Introductory Level. Once a rider in the U.S. begins to compete at Training Level, the size of the dressage arena moves to 20 by 60 meters. In Germany, the tests for levels E and A, most of the L tests and more than half of AT WHAT LEVEL IN DRESSAGE ARE YOU REQUIRED TO SIT THE TROT Training Level and First Level tests state that "All trot work may be ridden sitting or rising, unless stated." Note that in certain tests below Second Level, some specific movements do require rising trot, such as the stretchy trot that appears at the end of First Level, Test 2. Introductory Level tests state: "All trot work to be ridden rising. MANAGING YOUR HORSE’S JOINTS WITH INJECTIONS Swerdlin and Davis believe in a team approach to diagnostics and, depending on the horse, a radiologist, surgeon, the horse’s regular veterinarian and rider/trainer may all weigh in on the best approach for an individual horse’s joint-care management. Swerdlin emphasizes the importance of the owner/rider tracking the horse’s performance. FENCING FOR THE DRESSAGE FACILITY Classic Post and Board. A green pasture surrounded by solid wood post and board offers a traditional look. When installed with the boards fastened on the inside, using screws rather than nails to keep the boards on tight when the wood contracts and expands, this tried-and-true fencing has a pretty good safety rating, according to Jason Bludd, of Total Equine Fencing, in Ontario, Canada. HOW STUDYING BIOMECHANICS ENHANCES YOUR DRESSAGE TRAINING Biomechanics is the study of the forces that affect movement of the body. It examines how muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments operate together for a horse to walk, passage or perform lateral movements. (Amy K. Dragoo) Different anatomical structures work in synchrony. The bones are the support structure. HOW TO TEACH YOUR HORSE TO PICK UP THE CORRECT CANTER LEAD Pay attention to the straightness of the horse, and be critical of his reaction, or lack thereof, to the moment when you give the aid. Lastly, keep your eye on your horse’s outside ear. This last bit assures that you are sitting in the center of your horse and*
