The construction in the middle, where two perspectives merge, evokes a sensation of dizziness. Escher turns everything inside out: top becomes bottom, outside becomes inside. CIRCLE LIMIT IV (HEAVEN AND HELL) In July 1960 Escher completed the last of his four 'circle limits'. He had struggled wit it for a while, but it was a publication by the Canadian professor H.S.M. Coxeter which brought him on the right path. He had met this professor at the University of Toronto in 1954, during the International Congress of Mathematicians. Repeating reptiles. Lizards had fascinated him for quite some time, but in the summer and autumn of 1956 Escher was particularly busy with them. This fascination came not so much from the behaviour or way of life of the creatures, but from their distinctive form. This lent itself very well to being used for the purposes of creatingtessellations.
PERPETUAL MOTION
In Horseman the relationship between the elements of the central section of the print differs from the three-dimensional figure of 8 that forms the basic structure of the Möbius strip. In Horseman the central section of the print is a one-dimensional tessellation. Escher plays with our perception in this section. PERPETUAL MOTION
In Horseman the relationship between the elements of the central section of the print differs from the three-dimensional figure of 8 that forms the basic structure of the Möbius strip. In Horseman the central section of the print is a one-dimensional tessellation. Escher plays with our perception in this section. In October 1956 Escher created the woodcut and wood engraving Smaller and Smaller. It is the most detailed of all his prints. The ultimate expression of his abilities. ESCHER, GEÏNSPIREERD DOOR BOSCH Escher, geïnspireerd door Bosch. Dunja Nadjézjda Hak Oud-conservator Escher in Het Paleis. Al jaren wachtten kunstliefhebbers op wat er in 2016 stond te gebeuren. Toen was het 500 jaar geleden dat de laatmiddeleeuwse schilder Jheronimus Bosch (1450-1516) overleed en dat werd in 2016 groots herdacht. Maar wat heeft het werk van Bosch met ZEEKOORTS - ESCHER IN HET PALEISTRANSLATE THIS PAGE Escher leed aan zeekoorts. Hij had een grote liefde voor de zee en alles wat daarmee te maken had. Zijn passie voor de zee en het zeeleven vind je vaak terug in zijn werk. Gedurende zijn leven maakte Escher talloze reizen op vrachtschepen, hij las boeken over de zee en maakte verschillende werken over de zee. Hij kon het ook prachtigbeschrijven.

Escher in Het Paleis toont permanent de wereldberoemde, fantasievolle voorstellingen van de kunstenaar M.C. Escher en is gevestigd in het voormalige winterpaleis van koningin-moeder Emma. Het is in Den Haag het enige openbare gebouw waar de oude paleisfunctie nog te ervarenis.
Met ruim honderdvijftig prenten zijn bij Escher in Het Paleis altijd de bekendste werken en een selectie van steeds wisselende grafiek en vlakvullingen uit het oeuvre van Maurits C. Escher (1898-1972) tezien.

ESCHER Aan de hand van foto’s, prenten en brieven kunt u in deze documentaire van Escher in Het Paleis uit 2014 meer te weten komen over het leven en werk van de wereldberoemde graficus M.C. Escher. In 20 minuten krijgt u een indruk van zijn oeuvre, zijn thema's, zijn technieken en zijn vele fascinaties. Ook leert u meer over zijn persoonlijke leven, zijn reizen, zijn verlangen naar de zee, zijn twijfels en zijn successen. Een fascinerende film over een uniekekunstenaar.
Deze film is bij ons in het museum permanent te zien, maar op dit moment kan hij echter maar door een beperkt aantal mensen worden bekeken. Om deze prachtige film niet te missen, raden we u aan om hem al voorafgaand aan uw bezoek te bekijken.Lees meer
ESCHER VOOR BLINDEN EN SLECHTZIENDEN: HET VERVOLG De wereldberoemde grafische kunstenaar M.C. Escher staat bekend om zijn spel met de begrippen eeuwigheid en oneindigheid en het toveren met perspectief en diepte. Zijn oeuvre is gevuld met vele indrukwekkende visuele vondsten. Eschers kunst lijkt nauwelijks geschikt voor blinden en slechtzienden, maar wij leggen ons daar nietbij neer.
