WHAT WE DO - ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS IN-HOME PROGRAM Since its inception in 2004, the English Language Learners In-Home Program (ELL) has offered English as a Second Language on a one-on-one basis in their own home or in small groups of two-to-five students, as well as work-preparedness education to adult immigrants who are unable to attend regular classroom setting - all at No Cost.ENGLISH TUTORING
If you have no English skills and wish to learn, or already speak a little English and wish to improve your skills, we are here to help. We work with you in your home, or in a public site (e.g., library) on a one-on-one basis. Our tutors are volunteers and do not charge for their time. How much does ELL-In-Home charge? Our services are free to adults. 2. How much are the books? All the books you will need for this course are provided free of charge. If there are any additional materials you feel you need you will be expected to purchase them on your own. 3.How many hours a week are the classes? Normally we have two sessions aCOMPUTER LITERACY
Educating yourself on these basic computer skills can prepare you for hands-on computer demands in the workplace. ELL provides our students with volunteers that help you learn and practice basic computer and technology skills: How to use your keyboard. Navigation of the mouse. How to create a basic Word document. All things Email. ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS IN-HOME PROGRAM The Manhattan Institute is a think tank whose mission is to develop and disseminate new ideas that foster greater economic choice and individual responsibility. Florence Phillips and the ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada has been chosen as one of the four winners for this year’s Civil Society Award. Florence will be in attendance PREPARE FOR GED TEST A few states, such as California, accept both. Both tests cover the same subjects but are structured slightly differently. The GED contains four sections while the HiSET has five. The GED costs $95 to take the test. The HiSET costs $85. The GED is a computer-based test. The HISET is available in both computer-based and paper-basedversions.

Educating yourself on these basic computer skills can prepare you for hands-on computer demands in the workplace. ELL provides our students with volunteers that help you learn and practice basic computer and technology skills: How to use your keyboard. Navigation of the mouse. How to create a basic Word document. All things Email. ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS IN-HOME PROGRAM As Covid-19 restrictions begin lifting, some ELL tutors and students may wish to begin meeting in person. To adhere with current CDC guidelines, all tutors will be required to obtain a signed waiver from ALL students who wish to resume in-person learning. ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS IN-HOME PROGRAM The Manhattan Institute is a think tank whose mission is to develop and disseminate new ideas that foster greater economic choice and individual responsibility. Florence Phillips and the ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada has been chosen as one of the four winners for this year’s Civil Society Award. Florence will be in attendance VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITES Volunteer Opportunities. 1-1 Tutor. . You will work one-on-one with an adult who is struggling to speak, read, write, and understand English, helping them to identify and reach real-life goals such as obtaining a GED, applying for a job, or reading with their child. Tutors meet for one hour sessions twice weekly with their learner and we ask PREPARE FOR GED TEST A few states, such as California, accept both. Both tests cover the same subjects but are structured slightly differently. The GED contains four sections while the HiSET has five. The GED costs $95 to take the test. The HiSET costs $85. The GED is a computer-based test. The HISET is available in both computer-based and paper-basedversions.

His service-learning project influenced his decision to accept the invitation to become a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mongolia, after graduation. Welcome to the ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada. Since February 2004, our community volunteer tutors have assisted over 6,000 adult learners to become more informed and self-reliant by learning to speak, read, write, and understand English. We make a difference in people’s lives and help solve the language barriers. We offer adults an opportunity to learn or improve their English language skills. The training sessions and basic materials are provided AT NO COST to the tutor and student. To learn more about our program, click on “Student Programs” above.
