__
__EVENT DETAILS
For its second annual holiday event, Cathedral District Jacksonvilleis lighting up the
district for CHRISTMAS IN THE CATHEDRAL DISTRICT: LET THERE BE LIGHT, which will be visible from I-95 and the Acosta, Main Street, Hart andMathews
Bridges. This first-of-its-kind spectacular event is the CathedralDistrict’s
gift to its beloved community after a long and challenging year. Like many non-profits, the Cathedral District was in the middle of event planning when the pandemic up-ended public life. With COVID 19 making it impossible to repeat the district’s wildly successful holiday event of last year with thesame up-close
and personal church tours, Christmas market, and musical performances, the
Cathedral District’s board of directors came up with the idea ofhosting a
safe, family-friendly, drive-through event to showcase its fivehistoric
churches instead.
Every evening for over one month beginning November 27, The Basilicaof the Immaculate
Conception, First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, First UnitedMethodist
Church, Historic Mount Zion AME Church and St. Johns EpiscopalCathedral will
shine as part of a driving tour that includes more than 100 brightly lit trees. Other significant landmark buildings will be illuminated as well. “Imagine the central core of our beloved Cathedral District, withour five historic
churches, shining as a beacon of light from the highest point inJacksonville,”
said Ginny Myrick, CEO and President of Cathedral District Jax. “Itwill be a
thing of beauty and a wonderful gift to the community during such achallenging
year! Guests will be able to enjoy the display from their cars, sharing the
delight of the season with their families while remaining safelydistanced from
others. We are keeping the holiday spirit alive during the full seasonof
Christmas.”
The Cathedral District’s green team will use energy-efficient LED lighting to provide more light with much less energy thanks to event partner JEA, which willprovide the
infrastructure for this amazing gift of light. Christmas in the Cathedral District partners include: Vestcor, WJXT- 4, Jaguars Foundation, Community Foundation, FIS Foundation, WJB Real Estate Companies, BlueSky
Communities, Aging True, Sleiman Enterprises, JEA, VyStar Credit Union, Regency Centers, DVI and Liz Morgan PR. For more information, please visit cathedraldistrict-jax.org.__
