Making marriage work is a divinely inspired art form. That’s why FamilyLife created The Art of Marriage video event. Crafted for use in a church or community, The Art of Marriage® video event can be organized for heart-changing impact by a local pastor or lay couple. WEEKEND TO REMEMBER MARRIAGE RETREAT Register Today. Find out why over 1.5 million couples have attended FamilyLife’s Weekend to Remember. Marriage is a lifelong adventure of growing together through every age and stage of life. The happiest couples are those who commit to learning skills that help them weather difficult seasons and deal confidently with relationship challenges. HELP FOR THOSE GRIEVING A SUICIDE The counsel that comes from a suicide is that the way to deal with disappointment and hardship is to isolate yourself. Suicide is an act done in isolation that leads to complete isolation. You need to resist this counsel by clinging to God, connecting with other people, and living in a way that is fruitful. 1. RESPONDING TO PHYSICAL ABUSE We should involve the leaders of the local church when a sinning brother refuses to respond (Matthew 18:17). When it comes to abuse, Christians should insist that everyone, especially Christians, uphold and obey the civil and criminal laws governing abuse in our society. We should decry abuse in any form, whether verbal or physical. 40 LESSONS FROM 40 YEARS OF MARRIAGE Four decades ago, I married Barbara Ann Peterson. Looking back now on the first 12 months of our marriage, I’d have to describe myself then as an idiot—repeatedly ignoring the dignity of the woman that God had brought me. But after six children, 19 grandchildren, and FINDING HOPE IN THE DARKNESS OF GRIEF David’s cry is the cry of every grieving parent. Whether it is unexpected or predictable, death shakes us to the core. The pain is inescapable. Don’t feel guilty or embarrassed if you feel unprepared to face it. There’s no way to be ready for what you are going through. Death was not part of God’s original plan. WHAT CAN I DO IF MY TEEN IS USING DRUGS? Assess the situation. Understand why your child is using drugs or alcohol. Consider what boundaries might need to be put in place to protect and support the family. Ask a mentor, coach, teacher, or counselor whom your teen respects to talk to your child. Know what professional help is available to you and your child in your localarea.
5 COMMUNICATION TOOLS THAT SAVED MY MARRIAGE The road I took to learn about communication was a tough one. Here are some of the tools that helped transform my marriage and change my heart. 1. The Principle of First Response: The course of a conflict is not determined by the person who initiates, but by the person whoresponds.
THINK YOUR MARRIAGE IS DYING? 7 SIGNS TO CONSIDER Whether it’s alcohol, shopping, gambling, work, eating (or not eating), lying, porn, opiates—addiction is like having another person in the relationship. Because addictions are progressive, shrouded in denial and chaos, and often flirt with codependency, marriage with addiction can feel like quicksand. DEPRESSION: GOD IS NOT SILENT WHEN WE SUFFER Although it has always been a human problem, no one really knows why. But what Christians do know is that God is not silent when we suffer.
