KITE is an open web-based database that contains information on available sample collections. In KITE you can find metadata about existing Finnish sample collections and you can browse through lists of variables available in each sample collection. KITE has also a FIMM | INSTITUTE FOR MOLECULAR MEDICINE FINLAND Gene variants that protect against glaucoma identified, opening therapeutic possibilities. An international research collaboration led by researchers from the University of Helsinki and Stanford University has identified rare changes in a gene called ANGPTL7 that lower POPULATION GENETICS OF FINNS Fine-scale genetic structure in Finland before 1950s. The Finnish population is one of the most genetically studied in the world. A relatively small number of founder individuals and strong genetic isolation over centuries have shaped the unique genetic makeup across the country that we are now utilizing heavily in genetic studies of diseases and traits. An international research collaboration led by researchers from the University of Helsinki and Stanford University has identified rare changes in a gene called ANGPTL7 that lower POPULATION GENETICS OF FINNS Fine-scale genetic structure in Finland before 1950s. The Finnish population is one of the most genetically studied in the world. A relatively small number of founder individuals and strong genetic isolation over centuries have shaped the unique genetic makeup across the country that we are now utilizing heavily in genetic studies of diseases and traits. The study was based on medical history and genetic data of 1,589 Finnish migraine families with more than 8,300 individuals. DR. KATJA KIVINEN APPOINTED NEW HEAD OF THE FIMM Dr Katja Kivinen has been appointed new Head of the FIMM Technology Centre. She will start in this position on September 16, 2019. Dr. Kivinen has a wealth of expertise in both genetics and bioinformatics. Recently, she has contributed significantly to the development of cardiovascular research at the University of Cambridge.
