He held Surgeon’s appointments in numerous Naval ships until being appointed Surgeon-General of the expedition to Botany Bay under Captain Arthur Phillip: his salary was £182.10s a year. I take the first opportunity that has been given us to acquaint you with our disconsolate situation in this solitary waste of the creation. Our passage, you may have heard by the first ships, was tolerably favourable; but the inconveniences NORFOLK ISLAND SETTLEMENT Norfolk Island Settlement. Norfolk Island is an Australian Dependency, located at 28 deg. 58 min S., 168 deg. 03 min E. Consequently is about the same latitude as Lismore, NSW and several hundred kilometres east of the Australian coast, making it nearer to New Zealand than Australia by air. It sets its time 1 ½ hours ahead of East. SULLIVAN BAY SORRENTO A roll call of descendants of Victoria’s pioneers was read out, and then everyone joined in singing the Fellowship’s theme song ‘Botany Bay’. At nine years old, John Hudson a sometimes chimney sweeper, and the youngest First Fleet convict at the time of sentencing, was tried at the Old Bailey London on 10 December 1783, to seven years transportation for felony, but not for burglary. Thomas Chipp was a Private Marine 42 nd (Plymouth) Company. He arrived into Sydney Cove aboard the convict ship Friendship and served there in the detachment of Watkin Tench. SETTLEMENT AT PORT PHILLIP The first major white settlements in the colony of New South Wales were at Sydney and Norfolk Island. The Judge-Advocate, David Collins, returned to England in 1796, later publishing his Account of the Settlement. However, financial problems and desire for active service led to agitation for a further appointment. He HMS SUPPLY - FIRST FLEET FELLOWSHIP VICTORIA INC HMS Supply (Marine artist Frank Allen) Supply, a small brig of 168 tons and already 28 years old, served as the naval tender and armed companion of the First Fleets flagship HMS Sirius. The Grantham packet was purchased into the service to be employed as a Tender, but on examination was found very rotten and totally unfit for the voyage FRIENDSHIP - FIRST FLEET FELLOWSHIP VICTORIA INC Friendship was a convict transport ship of 276 tons, which was built in Scarborough England, in 1784, for her owners Hoppers of Scarborough. Aboard on the voyage to Botany Bay, were the Master, Captain Francis Walton, Assistant Surgeon Thomas Arnell and Marines, Captain James Meredith, Lieutenant Ralph Clark, and LieutenantWilliam.

Launceston born Philip Gidley King was the third Governor of New South Wales (1800-1806). He had come to Australia with the First Fleet. Appointed superintendent and commandant of the newly established settlement of Norfolk Island, he fathered two sons, Norfolk and Sydney. Their mother was Ann Inett, a convict.
