The Faroese salmon farming group has set aside an investment programme totalling around 180m – or £45m (DKK 400m) a year between now and 2024, which they intend to be a game changer. The investment programme for the Faroe GRIEG SEAFOOD REPORTS FINANCIAL LOSS FOR Q1 Q1 Revenues fell by 43% to NOK 660m (£57m). Over supply of downgraded salmon due to winter ulcers also affected margins in Norway, but there was good biological performance in Rogaland (Norway) and in British Columbia. Harvest volumes during the quarter dropped from 16,315 tonnes in 2020 to 13,583 tonnes this year. UNDERCOVER VIDEO CLAIMS ARE DISPUTED Undercover video claims are disputed. Fish wounds filmed by an animal rights activist were caused by seal attacks, according to the welfare chief at Scottish Sea Farms, which operates the site in question. US salmon producer AquaBounty Technologies says it has purchase orders for all of its initial harvest of genetically-modified (GMO) fish. The company plans to harvest around five tonnes of GMO salmon at the end of May from its land-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) farm in Indiana. INTRODUCING GENEXPERTISE The reality is that – due to breakthroughs in computing power and sequencing methods – even small companies should now be able to access the tools they need.
