Hypocalcemia, also known as “milk fever,” is rare in cats, and is caused by lack of calcium during pregnancy and nursing. If you are calm, you will transmit that WHY AND WHEN TO FIX YOUR NEW KITTEN (HINT: BEFORE 5 MONTHS Even well-meaning owners who plan to spay/neuter may not be aware of why its important to schedule the appointment early – before 5 months. Hypocalcemia, also known as “milk fever,” is rare in cats, and is caused by lack of calcium during pregnancy and nursing. Symptoms include seizures, staggering, muscle tremors, restlessness, and excessive panting. Hypocalcemia is also a veterinary emergency. Even if kittens are asleep they need to be awakened and fed to stay on schedule. For the first two weeks they will only consume very small amounts of milk at a time, hence the need for frequent feedings.
