To the Gate shows a strange cityscape, where the streets are emptied of the city’s inhabitants and replaced by objects they left behind. Jews had lived in Płock since the 13 th century, making it one of the oldest Jewish communities in Poland. In the early 19 th century, Jews comprised half the town’s population, and in 1939 made up approximately 25% of the town’s roughly 40,000 inhabitants. History, Heritage and Hope Permanent Exhibition. The Museum’s core exhibition, History, Heritage and Hope spans the first floor. Featuring original artifacts, video, and photos, it presents the history of the Holocaust beginning with the history of antisemitism and life before World War II, followed by the rise of Hitler and the Nazis and anti-Jewish legislation. THE SAMUEL BAK COLLECTION To the Gate, 2002. Oil on canvas. Permanent collection of The Florida Holocaust Museum. To the Gate shows a strange cityscape, where the streets are emptied of the city’s inhabitants and replaced by objects they left behind. Samuel Bak was born in Vilna, Lithuania, a city so abundant in Jewish culture, it was sometimes called the “Jerusalem of Lithuania.” LET ME BE MYSELF: THE LIFE STORY OF ANNE FRANK Let Me Be Myself: The Life Story of Anne Frank Extended through 8/15/2021. Jews had lived in Płock since the 13 th century, making it one of the oldest Jewish communities in Poland. In the early 19 th century, Jews comprised half the town’s population, and in 1939 made up approximately 25% of the town’s roughly 40,000 inhabitants.
