Sesame (_Sesamum indicum_ ) is one of the oldest oilseed crops in the world. The green capsules in the photo are called "buns" and when they are ripe they'll pop open scattering sesame seeds everywhere. The seeds are collected and pressed to make oil or deliciously placed on buns, pastries and candies. Steve grew a crop of sesame this year but probably won't next year because too much work for too little sesame. Read the sesame profile » for more on the historically important crop that grows in USDA Zones 5-11.
