THE N24/N25 FLIGHT TOWARDS THE NORTH POLE (1925) The N24/N25 flight towards the North Pole (1925) In 1925 Roald Amundsen attempted to fly to the North Pole with five others in two aircrafts, the N24 and the N25. They started from Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard, on 21 May 1925 and flew side by side to 87°43' N, where they landed on leads in the drift ice after more than eight hours inthe air.

The First Crossing of Greenland (1888-1889) In 1888 Fridtjof Nansen, together with five companions, became the first to cross Greenland’s inland. They spent six weeks skiing across the ice cap from east to west and had to spend the winter 1888-89 at Godthaab (Nuuk) on the west coast before they could get a ship back to Norway. EXPEDITIONS
The First Crossing of Greenland (1888-1889) In 1888 Fridtjof Nansen, together with five companions, became the first to cross Greenland’s inland. They spent six weeks skiing across the ice cap from east to west and had to spend the winter 1888-89 at Godthaab (Nuuk) on the west coast before they could get a ship back to Norway. THE NORGE FLIGHT (1926) In 1926 Roald Amundsen, Lincoln Ellsworth and Umberto Nobile flew with 13 others in the airship “Norge” from Ny-Ålesund at Svalbard over the North Pole to Teller in Alaska. With this “Amundsen-Ellsworth-Nobile Transpolar Flight” the Arctic Ocean was crossed for the first time. NANSEN, FRIDTJOF (1861-1930) Nansen, Fridtjof (1861-1930) Many consider Fridtjof Nansen to be one of the greatest men Norway has ever nurtured. Even during his lifetime he became a legend; he was the personification of a great hero; the first among sportsmen, explorers, research workers, statesmen and humanitarians. Long after his death millions continued to remember him JOHANSEN, FREDRIK HJALMAR (1867-1913) Johansen was Fridtjof Nansen’s companion on the trek from the Fram to Franz Josef Land and he also participated on Roald Amundsen’s antarctic expedition.
