Future First helps state schools and colleges to build alumni communities. Former students return as career and education role models, mentors and more. SIGN UP - FUTURE FIRST Once signed up, there is no obligation to get involved straight away. We understand that life is busy and time can be hard to find. The time spent volunteering ranges from one-off commitments like taking part in a workshop to ongoing support such as becoming a mentor. WALES LEADS WAY WITH FUTURE FIRST ALUMNI INITIATIVE The Welsh Government has become the first UK administration to put school alumni at the heart of boosting career prospects for students. Ministers in Cardiff have teamed up with education charity Future First to create a new toolkit aimed at helping all Welsh state secondary schools and colleges to build thriving alumni networks. FUTURE ME ONLINE MENTORING We are delighted to announce we have partnered with the online mentoring charity, Brightside, to deliver Future Me Mentoring, an eight-week online mentoring programme to support young people during the coronavirus crisis.Year 11 and 12 students at a crucial stage of their education will benefit from receiving personalised advice and guidance from relatable role models. ST CLEMENT DANES BRINGS ALUMNI BACK TO THE CLASSROOM The school used these videos to provide an insight into life after school for every student from Year 9 to Year 13. They’ve also been a fantastic resource for staff who’ve enjoyed seeing what their formerstudents are doing.

For the last 20 years, I’ve worked for Enterprise Rent-A WHY DID SAINT BENEDICT CATHOLIC ACADEMY, DERBY CHOOSE Future First planned and delivered a World of Work Day at the school that focussed on increasing student knowledge of careers. Six alumni came along, giving our current Year 9 students the opportunity to meet people from a variety of industries, from a self- employed dance teacher to a business development director and even a child clinicalbehaviourist.
EMPLOYER ENCOUNTERS LOWER CHANCES OF STUDENTS BECOMING It is estimated that there are around 788,000 young people aged between 16 to 24 years old in the UK who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) 1 and this disproportionally affects young people from the most disadvantaged backgrounds. They graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2014 in Film & Television, during their degree they focused on LGBT issues in the media and progressed on to an MA in Screen Industries researching Transgender teenagers on television. The work of Future First is a collaboration between our expert team, school staff, students and pupils, employers and alumni. Akeem joined Future First after 4 years of working in Higher Education at Russell Group Universities. They graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2014 in Film & Television, during their degree they focused on LGBT issues in the media and progressed on to an MA in Screen Industries researching Transgender teenagers on television. ST CLEMENT DANES BRINGS ALUMNI BACK TO THE CLASSROOM St Clement Danes School in Hertfordshire is a perfect example. The school has been working with Future First since 2014 to build a thriving, engaged network of over 1,200 alumni volunteers. VOLUNTEERING TO SHOW STUDENTS A WORLD BEYOND THEIR Volunteering to show students a world beyond their expectations. Abul is a former student from Oldham Sixth Form College and has been volunteering there for a number of years with Future First. For the last 20 years, I’ve worked for Enterprise Rent-A-Car and I’m now an HR manager. In my volunteering role with the school, I try and do EMPLOYER ENCOUNTERS LOWER CHANCES OF STUDENTS BECOMING Employer encounters lower chances of students becoming NEET. It is estimated that there are around 788,000 young people aged between 16 to 24 years old in the UK who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) 1 and this disproportionally affects young people from the most disadvantaged backgrounds. Research shows, however that young 'FROM SOCIAL CAPITAL TO SOCIAL MOBILITY' BY MATT LENT Social mobility. The ability of individuals or groups to move upward (or downward) in status, based on wealth, occupation, education, or other social variable.
