LOOKING AHEAD // M-NOTE 10.9.2020 Gathering,We continue to forge ahead in a year where nothing has been predictable. Since March, The Gathering has been worshiping online due to coronavirus. This summer, I updated the congregation, letting you know that we would worship online through September. I ended that note promising that I would update you this fall! Well, fall is here! I owe you an update. Recently, I’ve had THE LEGACY OF JACK HARBISON // M-NOTE 12.4.2020 Gathering,Ten years ago, The Gathering had one site, was packed with three services, and was trying to figure out how to continue to welcome new people. We began exploring the idea of a second site. I was invited by the Clayton United Methodist Church to speak with their leadership team about this idea. It was an intimidating proposal. This church had a long history in downtown Clayton OUR WORK // M-NOTE 1.29.2021 Gathering,Writer Annie Dillard once said, “how we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” Considering that the average person spends a third of their adult life at work - some 90,000 hours - your job can in large part define your life. She is unnamed like too many women in scripture, however she performs a meaningful act. WAITING WITH HOPE // M-NOTE 11.6.2020 Gathering,We were saved in hope. If we see what we hope for, that isn't hope. Who hopes for what they already see? But if we hope for what we don't see, we wait for it with patience. In the same way, the Spirit comes to help our weakness. We don't know what we should pray, but the Spirit himself pleads our case with unexpressed groans.
