Despite Brighton’s The Great Escape festival being online and fully digital, a gripping array of new talent emanated from studios around the globe over the weekend.. Here are our 10 favourite sets from the event, from the artists that are bound to be your new favourites before the world blooms again: GIGLIST | IN REVIEW: SONS OF KEMET Sons Of Kemet are exceptionally good at setting the tone for an entire album, a large majority of which is instrumental, through only a first few stanzas. Though taking more traditional rhythms and vocalisations, it is these initial lines that ground their work in greater, real, and tangible ideas surrounding race and culture. GIGLIST | LIVE: SILVERTWIN @ PAPER DRESS VINTAGE Thank heavens. Thank fuck. Live music is back. And retro soft rock revivalists Silvertwin took it way back to the 70s with an impressively slick performance at Hackney’s Paper Dress Vintage that felt as though you’d stepped into a time capsule, of sorts.. There’s no need to reiterate, but gigs have been desperately missed. GIGLIST | IN REVIEW: BURIAL Hyperdub took us all by surprise two days ago with the drop of Burial’s new track ‘Chemz’ – his first solo release since ‘Claustro / State Forest’ last year. Their brashness has never left them. Right from the start, black midi have had an almost jarring quality to their writing. Throughout Cavalcade, the album pummels you from the beginning.
