STEVE KILBEY AND THE WINGED HEELS MAKE CREATIVE SURPLUS ON Co-founder and long-time mainstay of The Church since its inception in 1980, bassist/vocalist/composer Steve Kilbey has also loyally followed his muse in a variety of different directions between the Australian band’s projects. Within the last year alone he’s released Eleven Women in September of 2020 and in March of this year issued his collaboration with Martin Kennedy Jupiter 13. THE FEUD THAT JUST WON'T END: DID LEVON HELM'S WIFE KEEP Jonathan Taplin was The Band’s tour manager starting in 1969. Taplin has gone on to produce films, teach and has worked in finance. In a just-posted blog entry titled “Rhythms of Life,” Taplin discusses his experience during Grammys Weekend. At the end of the post is a sentence that contains the first on-the-record discussion of why Robertson didn’t participate in The Grammys ROD PICOTT DELIVERS LIMITED TWO CD COLLECTION OF 26 SONG There are 30 years of co-writes between childhood friends Rod Picott and Slaid Cleaves, both raised in Berwick, ME in this 26-song 2CD spanning work rendered by Picott. The idea is to reward his loyal fans with a limited package, a collector’s edition, dubbed Wood, Steel, Dust & Dreams that will only be issued physically with each copy numbered and signed, never to be printed again. GARY LOURIS REMAINS MASTER OF INFECTIOUS BEATLESQUE HOOKS The approach couldn’t be more different. On 2008’s Vagabonds, Jayhawks co-founder Gary Louris’ only solo venture before this one, Jump for Joy, he employed a choir, a pedal steel guitar, and a cadre of versatile musicians. Here he does it all himself, producing and playing all the instruments. That should not be surprising as Louris has had plenty of high-profile producer roles too. PAUL WELLER STRETCHES ARTISTIC BOUNDARIES OF NEW & OLD Over the course of his nearly fifty-year career, Paul Weller has proven himself to be as fearless as he is prolific. Premature as it first seemed to dissolve The Jam and form The Style Council back in 1982-3, the move proved to be both wise and fruitful. SONG PREMIERE: GABBY HOLT DELIVERS SOARING AND INFECTIOUS 16 hours ago · It is easy to find the Devil in The Star and The Devil, the searing solo debut from Portland rock staple Gabby Holt. Holt explores her past connections in six bristling parts, each of which she wrote while immersed in connections that were, at times, driven by addiction, fear, or insecurity. A smile on the lips, a swivel in the hips, and an earful of snappy tunes are the inevitable takeaways from any Ark-Tones appearance. The GUITARIST QUINN SULLIVAN TALKS FOLLOWING HIS BLUES TRAIL “All Around The World” seems to capture that new maturity or at least a heightened viewpoint, that only comes with age. Absolutely, yeah. That one was an interesting song because we wrote that song actually way before everything started to unfold with the pandemic and Black Lives Matter, all of the social things that were going on in theworld in 2020.
